OneDrive

Welcome to the OneDrive UserVoice. This is your place to suggest ideas on how to improve OneDrive. We value your suggestions and listen to what you say.

Please check out the ideas others have suggested and vote on your favorites. If you have a suggestion that’s not listed yet, you can submit your own. But keep suggestions focused on a single topic so we can respond accordingly.

While we can’t guarantee any specific features or timelines, we will respond to every suggestion that gets at least 100 votes. We may also merge and rename suggestions for clarity.

Thanks for joining our community and helping improve OneDrive.

I suggest you ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

  1. Microsoft should allow users to disable download button

Allow someone to view in a browser without downloading it is a very common need

It is just stupid not to allow us to disable the download link
Microsoft should allow users to disable download button

Google Drive and Box have this function, why not MS OneDrive?
I think its important that Microsoft add an option to disable the download function

    • Improve API to allow the timestamps (date/time) of files/folders to be updated

The new OneDrive API still doesn’t allow the timestamps of uploaded files/folders to be updated (lastModifiedDateTime, createdDateTime). Instead, the timestamps are always set to the time of the upload. This loss of data prevents users from properly sorting their files by modification or creation date. It also prevents applications that use the timestamps from working properly (file synchronization, backup, etc.).
Please change the timestamp properties so they are writeable rather than read-only.

      • File Sharing link options (expire date, password, public, resharing....)

Add the possibility to improve the link sharing of files.
        Must have:
        1. out of the explorer with the Dropdown menu "copy share link"

        nice to have:
        2. an expiration date on shared links (expires in ... days, expire date
        3. make link public or private (logged in, everyone)

        Idea:
        4. allow upload to folder wich is shared
        5. prevent from download (vie only)
        6.

        • We need ONEDRIVE for Business - NOT SHAREPOINT. 1 TB of storage with NO LIMITS on the amount of files. Onedrive "personal" is better :(

OneDrive is a very, very good app ... but "OneDrive for Business" is unfortunately a mistake.
Synchronization problems and limitations arising from the Sharepoint ...I hope Microsoft will change the approach to the "OneDrive for Business"

No for restrictions -> http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2933738/en-us Look at this -> http://community.office365.com/en-us/f/156/t/269786.aspx

          1) ONEDRIVE for Business, it SHOULD be ONEDRIVE but for business.

It shouldn't be SharePoint, it shouldn't have restriction that ONEDRIVE doesn't have. I get what you are saying but, making excuses for it isn't helping.

We need it to be ONEDRIVE for Business, NOT SHAREPOINT. We want ONE place that syncs properly,…

          • Remove the need for Office Upload Center if you are using OneDrive

As an O365 Home subscriber, I use my unlimited OneDrive storage to store my files. These include my pictures, videos, music and documents. On my Surface Pro 3, I have O365 Home installed which also includes the Office Upload Center.

To me, it seems redundant to have the OneDrive Sync functionality AND the O365 Upload Center available. In fact, the Upload Center stores an additional copy of my office files (under AppData) even when those files are stored within my OneDrive directory (and locally available). This seems like a waist of storage space (11 GB in my case) and periodically…

            • Add Media Player in OneDrive web portal

Add Media Player in OneDrive online web portal. So that the user could be able play music any where by just signing in to the outlook account and with a single click on an audio file.

              • prevent shared files from being downloaded

I think it would be great if there was some setting to turn download's of a shared file or folder ON\OFF... what I mean is suppose I want to share a File\Folder with someone, I would only want them to be able to view\edit it online and not be able to download it onto their computer.. to take this idea further, it could also be helpful if you could prevent copying content from shared files... the download permission could probably be visible once a user decides to share a particular file with someone

                • SYNC SPEED IMPROVEMENT - Desktop Sync Speed Makes Syncing Impractical

There have been several posts here before marked as "Boom It's Done" or referred to support. HOWEVER -- this is not a support issue, and I suggest you treat it as a serious problem with the product.

I have 1.45Mbps download speed (tested on speedtest.net) and it has taken more than a week to sync 2.4GiB of my files. According to a download speed calculator, this should take only ~ 4 hours. I have set my computer not to sleep to make sure the synchronization happens.

Please see some of the older posts that have been closed -- this is…

                  • Upload to a shared folder without loging in

Make it possible to create a share forlder with Bill, send the link to him at bill@gates.com and let Bill just click on the link and download/upload files to that folder without signing. Folders could also be password protected so that Bill needs to write that to enter the folder.

                    • Allow documents that you share to everyone to be embedded and viewed without authentication

If you share a document in OneDrive for Business (SharePoint too) to the everyone group as read only, and then un-tick the box "Require sign-in" when you share it, you receive an error if you try and view the document if you are not logged in.

I have attached a document outlining the procedure I am going through. This functionality is available in OneDrive Personal, but not through OneDrive for Business or SharePoint. Please look to add this as it would be very useful for teachers wishing to embed resources without having to get students to go through the login…

                      • show the progress of the syncing more extensively and be able to change the sequence of files to sync next.

Syncing doesn't show details of what is to be synced and also (therefore?) doesn's allow you to change the sequence of the files to be synced. When a large (video) is in the queue you can wait a long time.

Now that I'm able to add tags to photos, you should give me a simple way to add the tags to a set of photos.

As an example, I want to tag all photos I take at work with the #work hashtag.

                          • Allow External Storage To Be Selected As OneDrive Folder

Right now when I install OneDrive on my Mac, it asks me to choose a location for my OneDrive folder. If I choose an SD Card or any other external storage device, I'm not allowed to do so. We need the ability to be able to use an External Storage device as our OneDrive folder. In 2015, there is no reason not to!!!

                            • Create "Get a link" for a folder

It is always difficult to find a way receive large email attachment over the allowed limit. Can OneDrive create and share a folder that can allowing external client upload files into the share folder via a guest share link. Just as easy as creating a download share link by click on "Get a link" , copy and paste into an email, allowing external client download the file without creating a Mircosoft Account.

                                • Feature: Sync metadata - file attributes

                                  // Redirected from: https://github.com/OneDrive/onedrive-explorer-win/issues/1

Would be really useful if OneDrive sync the associated file attributes such as; hidden and read-only flags (at least these basic ones), and expose it to the API as well.

Currently, if you have a read-only or hidden file on a device, after syncing it loses those attributes on the other (except for the timestamp).

                                  • Enable Folders to be Hidden from Sync

I'd like some folders not to be synced to every Client.

for instance I use one drive on my work computer. I don't want my personal folders to be synced to my work PC. But I do want them synced to my home PC.

I don't want the online/offline placeholders. I don't want the folder, at least its contents, on the work PC at all.

                                    • Improve sync quality for OneDrive for Business

I was asked to post my points separately so instead I'll just post the most important one.

OneDrive for Business sucks. Office Document Cache handler is the worst piece of software Microsoft currently endorses. Crashes, sync errors, etc.

Remove OneDrive for Business and replace it with the sync engine from OneDrive personal, which *shock* actually works. My company has ditched OneDrive for Business in favour of DropBox at great expense due to the awful, awful UX Sharepoint has. Its a shame O365 is tarnished in this way.

                                        Hi Jez,

Thanks for your suggestion. You can learn more about our approach to OneDrive for Business syncing in our blog post at https://blog.onedrive.com/taking-the-next-step-in-sync-for-onedrive/

“It was clear that the right approach was to converge to a single sync engine and experience that would be able to provide all of the benefits of the consumer and business service to all customers faster. We decided to start with the consumer sync engine foundation from Windows 7 and Windows 8 and add the right capabilities from the other two engines. This way, we could add features once and have them benefit all customers, while also ensuring that we didn’t run into any more reliability challenges due to placeholders in Windows 8.1. We understand that having one sync engine provide a superset for all three will take time, but this is the best option to meet our core goals.”

                                      • Show detailed synced status (speed, time, files...)

We ar efrustrated by endless processing changes and never know what is doing. Show us what OneDrive is doung:
                                        - updating files xxx of xxxx
                                        - time to coplete cca xx seconds/minutes
                                        - uploading at xxkb/s
                                        - files remaining
                                        - files that is curently in sync
                                        ...
