  1. Remove the hamburger menu and return to pivots

Please remove the hamburger menu from the Windows Phone app, and use the app bar at bottom and pivots at top.

Both Android and iOS are moving away from the hamburger menu in their latest designs, because it's bad interface design.

Please read the following articles as backup to this request:

Thanks for the feedback. We’ve seen the discussions around the merit of hamburger or not. For now we’re going to continue with this design pattern on Windows.

  2. Concept for combining hamburger and ellipsis menu

I just designed a concept for combining hamburger and ellipsis menu in onedrive app for windows phone.

    You can check them here:

Farshad, very cool to see the concept. We recently updated the Windows Phone design but are always happy to get customer input. Thanks!

  3. Add a dark theme to the mobile apps to save battery life and reduce eye strain

A dark theme can reduce battery life on AMOLED screens and reduce eye strain when using the phone at night in a dark envoronment

This is an interesting idea, but not something we are going to consider in the near future. In the interest of being honest, we are declining things that aren’t on our roadmap.

Thanks for the suggestion. Just being transparent that we are unlikely to get to this in the near future.

  5. OneDrive Photos to include photos from Facebook and other services

The OneDrive virtual photo bucket is great and has great potential to exploit in the Windows 10 Photos app.

It would be majestic if this virtual photo bucket would virtually include the user's photos on Facebook, Instagram, Microsoft Photosynth, Twitter, Flickr, Google+ and so on. For fast browsing, local thumbnails are needed. This will make the user's life story more complete and provides more sources for photos to include in Albums for sharing.

  6. Allow online-only file support for Mac OS X Finder

Possible to see all files on OneDrive, but they are not synchronize until they are moved out from the one drive folder or opened.

This will make it easier to use the space on OneDrive without filling the SSD.

Hi, thanks for the suggestion – for this we’d recommend using Selective Sync.

  7. Mount or sync onedrive in linux

I'd love to have access to onedrive from Linux (Debian). Either as a mountable volume or syncing. Especially from the command line!

  8. Give free storage with Xbox Live subscription

Give gamers who choose and invest in Microsoft's gaming ecosystem the chance to gain something that is connected to all of Microsoft's products...OneDrive storage!

I don't think a ridiculous amount would be necesseary but I think it would be nice to reward the folks who pay for a yearly subscription to your gaming service. I think it would reinforce the idea that it is all connected.

We’re not announcing additional changes to our storage plans right now but thank you for the suggestion.

  9. Client side encryption in OneDrive, via existing NTFS encryption

NTFS should be extended with an API to access files and folders in encrypted format (it already has API for the decrypted format, since decryption is automatic and transparent).

Then OneDrive could use the NTFS-encrypted raw format to upload data to cloud. This would enable client side encryption with very little investment from Microsoft with huge business advantages:
    - support for client side encryption, transparently, on FS level
    - support for upload changes only, since only the changed files are uploaded, i.e. no need for containers just to encrypt files
    - very little investment is needed

    Encryption should be based…

We currently support uploading and sync for encrypted files today but appreciate your suggestion on this approach.

  10. Syncing files between computers without storing on OneDrive

Currently, for a file to be synced, it must be uploaded to OneDrive. I would like the option to simply sync files between computers WITHOUT having them actually stay on my OneDrive.

Basically like the old Fetch feature, but with automatic syncing of selected files. I believe Windows Live Mesh (very old version of OneDrive) had a feature like this too.

Sorry, but this kind of feature is not consistent with how we think of evolving OneDrive. OneDrive is not p2p sync.

  11. Enable multiple sync folders or syncing behind junction points/symbolic links.

With theoretical "ulimited" storage now being offered, maybe its time to look over how people will be using the software to make use of this. I find it practically impossible to sync or upload the files from my local server which are housed on 5 seperate physical harddrives. Can you please implement possibility to use several onedrive sync folders, syncing behing junctions or symb. links, or a different solution to support the "unlimited" storage which you sell.

Maybe FTP would be a good easy way to start.

  12. Remove the hamburger menu in Windows Phone

The WP UI revamp is not done! We would like to see beautiful Modern/Metro style user interfaces on our Windows Phones and not stupid Android copies.

Remove the hamburger menu and do not bring it back. It is in the farthest corner of the phone from my finger and I can not reach it. Furthermore, the flyout is ugly and lags on my 930...

Do not forget the search button, the pivot view and all the missing parts.

And do not introduce more bad UI practices and concepts like these ones in the future. Stick to the pertfectly designed Metro…

Thanks for the feedback. At this time, this is the UI pattern we’re adopting for account management. You’ll notice that a number of other Microsoft apps are shifting to using the hamburger and our work here is consistent with that approach.

  13. Allow me to add files to my OneDrive account by pasting their web URLs.

Often times I come across a file on the web which I want to save a copy of, in case the original should ever go offline. This might be a podcast episode or a series of videos that someone is creating, such as Chrontendo over on Archive.org

Rather than making me download the file to my computer first and then slowly upload it through my pitiful upload bandwidth to OneDrive, why not simply allow me to give you the URL of the file I want on OneDrive and have OneDrive download it from the web to the folder of my…

This isn’t something we’re likely to tackle soon, but it’s a great idea for the developer community. Perhaps a browser extension?

  14. Navigate photos by time in Windows Phone

I would like the OneDrive for Windows Phone app to make it easier to find files (but especially photos) from some time in the past. Currently, you have to scroll through all the pictures, waiting for all the images to load as you scroll. That takes too much time and wastes bandwidth.

I want to be able to tap on the date grouping and be presented with some sort of time picker so that I can jump to a month in the past.

This functionality is already present in the pictures app, but is missing from OneDrive.

    I recently broke…

Thanks for the suggestion. OneDrive is integrated into the Photos app on Windows for just this reason. Please take a look.

  15. Fix authentication for WebDAV access

I know it will be a long time (if ever) before OneDrive supports Linux, however at least make it possible for the community at large to use it via other channels. For example we could mount OneDrive via WebDav and linux's davfs except that the windows passport authentication gets in the way because of the redirects for authentication services... If webdav could be supported with its native auth mechanisms that would make OneDrive usable for Linux users.

  17. Streaming Videos/Documents/Music/Pictures/Others

Other cloud services allow the streaming of files (video, music, documents, etc etc) from the desktop client. Bitcasa is the service I'm coming from and they had an excellent service set up to stream files (of all sorts, it even streamed documents and photoshop files). If your files are set to 'online-only', then every file you try to use will be downloaded before you can play it/view it/use it.

If you're offering unlimited storage, chances are people will be saving every family video and every family photo onto your service which means they will not have the space on their…

Thanks for the suggestion. We do offering streaming of videos from the website. And the new Photos app in Windows 10 will let you browse your photos in OneDrive without having to download them all to your computer. But we don’t think we’ll build generalized streaming support like this in the near future.

  18. Show progression bars on file icons when synchronising or uploading

Show progression bars on file icons instead of the static 'refresh' icon.

  19. Enable mapping online folders to different local drives

Now that OneDrive supports very large storage it would be nice to be able to map different online folders to distinct local paths in the Windows/Mac clients.

  20. Integrate with History File

Windows 8/8.1 supports File History which allows you to see all previous versions of files on your folders, which is specially useful for a little in loco version control when dealing with projects that has many changing files.

But currently this feature requires another disk drive or a network drive.

Windows could automatically use OneDrive to store those files for each account, and present them to the user, downloading the previous versions as needed (similar on how OneDrive currently works on 8.1)
