  1. Recognise GPX files and display route in map

Many hikers, runners and cyclists record their journeys using mobile GPS and save them as GPX files. It would be useful if these files can be recognised in OneDrive and displayed in Windows Maps.

Opening a GPX file would display the route, and the 'Details' pane could contain the extra information about distance, speed, elevation, altitude, heart rate, etc.

With many GPX files stored in a OneDrive folder, it would be awesome if all the routes could be shown together in one Windows Map to obtain an overall view.

When a GPX file is shared the 'Directions' feature in Windows…

Thanks for the suggestion. Just being transparent that we are unlikely to get to this in the near future. It could be a great opportunity for the dev community!

  2. Microsoft should buy Dropbox software

As the developers group at Microsoft is not able to produce an app to synchronize also shared OneDrive folders, I recommend to ask Dropbox to sell their software package to Microsoft. (Server, Desktop app, web app....). Microsoft should buy all rights on this software and glue a label "OneDrive" on it.
The big benefit for Microsoft loyal customers would be, that they do not have to wait longer for 'shared folder synchronisation' any more.
Oh yes, and please throw away then the old OneDrive Service, maybe also the development staff can help somewhere else.

  3. Remove the check marks for synced files

Remove the check mark for synced files. It should be blank when synced, not a check mark like in this photo. This is from Windows 10, the looks of synced files like windows 8 (without the check marks) is what I want.

  4. Selective Sync + Smart File Hybrid

Both placeholder files & selective sync both have their pros and cons. Please think about taking the pros from both and creating an innovative hybrid (Pros & Cons section below).

    ======== Hybrid Explaination ========

The 2 parts of this hybrid feature:
    (1) Selective sync selects the folders to appear.
    (2) Allow these files/folders from (1) to be right-clicked & kept online, so they can be treated as placeholders.

    The result:
1] For folders that are non important for one desktop/laptop, we can leave them out entirely.
2] For the important folders with large files (projects, videos, ISOs), we can see…

Hi folks – Appreciate the thinking and write-up. We’ve spent some time thinking about this and it’s unlikely to be our approach. That’s partly because it really compromises both sides – one of the reasons people like selective sync is the simplicity of what it means. And on the other side, placeholders allowed you to see everything without having to decide on syncing.

    Keep the ideas coming!

  5. Include Editing features for photos in one drive . It would be nice if an unlimited photo upload @ reduced size similar to that's of Google

In addition to above said Editing and Unlimited Photo space @standard size . Search should be improved for example if I tried to search my photos taken at some place ,I should be able to do that for example like saying / searching say "My photos in London " etc., Similarly searching by date , Peoples name if they are tagged ,(Although tags which created by default such as #Text ,#Screenshot etc., are pretty useful but I want them to be directly searchable from search bar or using Cortona )

  6. I want to be able to change the owner so files take up their space

I love OneDrive, I love its features and I don't want to switch to some other cloud provider because I run out of space.

I have the Office 356 subscription for me and my family and, as the techie in the family, I was asked to upload and provide photos and videos for everyone. Which I did, enjoying them on our phones and all...

Now, most of my family's photos and videos are on my account, shared with them. I wish I could make them the owners of their files and folders, before my space runs dry.

Hi Robin, thanks for the idea. This isn’t something we are looking at building in the near future but what you could do is have the person you want to “move” the files to create a folder and then share it and then move those files into that folder.

    thanks
    Angus

  7. Embed a photo album to a website as a slideshow

Ability to embed an album to a webpage. This way someone can view my OneDrive photos without leaving the webpage. It would be nice if the embedded album showed a single picture at a time in an <iframe>with an option to arrow over to view the next photo in the album.

  9. Support for major ebook formats (e.g. mobi, epub, ...)

    Hi,

Having the ability to open and read ebooks and documents in various formats straight from OneDrive.com can add more value to this great cloud application and storage.

It is currently possible to open pdf files which is awesome and great; however, opening mobi, epub and other file formats is dependant on client's machine which can be limiting. Adding this feature through an extension or providing it natively through OneDrive Word Documents application can help users to have less dependency on their environment and devices.

    Thanks a lot. :)

  10. Loosen up on content allowed on OneDrive -- current policy would ban most users

After hearing about users who had their entire Microsoft accounts frozen without warning and without being allowed to retrieve their data, apparently over files that they'd uploaded (privately) to their OneDrive, I looked into the Code of Conduct again and was baffled by how broad the restrictions are. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows-live/code-of-conduct

Taken broadly (which Microsoft apparently is doing, based on previous suspensions) this would prohibit storing TONS of harmless, legal, common content. Given that Office 365 users receive 1TB/unlimited OneDrive storage, presumably we're encouraged to use it as a backup service and transfer much of our hard drive there. I would very…

You referenced an old page. OneDrive is covered by the new Microsoft Services Agreement – https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/servicesagreement

    3. Code of Conduct.
    a. By agreeing to these Terms, you’re agreeing that, when using the Services, you will follow these rules:
    i. Don’t do anything illegal.
ii. Don’t engage in any activity that exploits, harms, or threatens to harm children.
iii. Don’t send spam. Spam is unwanted or unsolicited bulk email, postings, contact requests, SMS (text messages), or instant messages.
iv. Don’t publicly display or use the Services to share inappropriate Content or material (involving, for example, nudity, bestiality, pornography, graphic violence, or criminal activity).
    v. Don’t engage in activity that is false or misleading (e.g., asking for money under false pretenses, impersonating someone else, manipulating the Services to increase play count, or affect rankings, ratings, or comments).
vi. Don’t circumvent any restrictions on access to or availability of the Services.

  11. It would be great to be able to edit mp3 tags online

With increased storage available on OneDrive, it now makes sense to store your whole collection on there and stream it - especially with OneDrive integration to Xbox Music now.

I've been collecting music for around 15 years, and have a huge collection. I find that when trying to match my collection to the Xbox Music albums available, sometimes its a small difference that prevents finding it, and by being able to edit mp3 metadata via onedrive.com would mean the files don't need to download each time you change something

  12. allow network mapping of OneDrive for mac users (and eventual Time Machine support!)

Allowing users to mount OneDrive as a networked disk would make life immeasurably easier for users. (Similar to Expandrive http://www.expandrive.com/expandrive , but with native support). Current efforts in Finder-->Connect to Server fail on Macs.

Pie in the sky dream would be to use OneDrive as a Time Machine drive for Mac.

  13. Syncing files between computers without storing on OneDrive

Currently, for a file to be synced, it must be uploaded to OneDrive. I would like the option to simply sync files between computers WITHOUT having them actually stay on my OneDrive.

Basically like the old Fetch feature, but with automatic syncing of selected files. I believe Windows Live Mesh (very old version of OneDrive) had a feature like this too.

Sorry, but this kind of feature is not consistent with how we think of evolving OneDrive. OneDrive is not p2p sync.

  14. Add photo editor

Add photo editor to the drive. It would greatly enhance the experience, especially since most people want to tweak a photo before sharing.

This is getting to be pretty standard and it comes across to me as a weakness of one drive, especially since I really am trying to get away from google drive, which is integrated with picasa.

On Windows 10, OneDrive is built right into the Photos app which offers rich editing features for all your OneDrive photos. On the web and on mobile, we are working to make it easier to use the editor of your choice.

  15. Remove the hamburger menu and return to pivots

Please remove the hamburger menu from the Windows Phone app, and use the app bar at bottom and pivots at top.

Both Android and iOS are moving away from the hamburger menu in their latest designs, because it's bad interface design.

  18. Create "Get a link" for a folder

It is always difficult to find a way receive large email attachment over the allowed limit. Can OneDrive create and share a folder that can allowing external client upload files into the share folder via a guest share link. Just as easy as creating a download share link by click on "Get a link" , copy and paste into an email, allowing external client download the file without creating a Mircosoft Account.

  19. Remove the need for Office Upload Center if you are using OneDrive

As an O365 Home subscriber, I use my unlimited OneDrive storage to store my files. These include my pictures, videos, music and documents. On my Surface Pro 3, I have O365 Home installed which also includes the Office Upload Center.

To me, it seems redundant to have the OneDrive Sync functionality AND the O365 Upload Center available. In fact, the Upload Center stores an additional copy of my office files (under AppData) even when those files are stored within my OneDrive directory (and locally available). This seems like a waist of storage space (11 GB in my case) and periodically…

The Office integration support in OneDrive connects your document to the OneDrive service, allowing for you to automatically co-author when opening files locally, share from the backstage, and more.

You can choose to turn this off. On Windows 8.1, you must uninstall the Microsoft OneDrive app from the Add/Remove Programs. On Windows 7 or 10, you can right-click on the systray icon, access the Settings menu and uncheck the Office integration checkbox. This will prevent the Office Upload Center from being involved in your uploads.

  20. iOS Camera Roll Backup Bug

Not all of my images/videos in my camera roll are successfully backed up in OneDrive for iOS even though I have the Camera Roll Backup feature turned on and the status says "up to date".

I ended up having to copy all the images off my iPhone to a PC and do a folder diff with my OneDrive CameraRoll folder. What I found was occasional photos taken between Aug 2014 an Jan 2015 were not present in my OneDrive Camera Roll.

Before manually finding the differences, I was able to visually spot some missing photos in the OneDrive app. I…
