New sync client must support team sites
Horrified to read this in the FAQ for the new sync client:
"Our focus right now is exclusively on OneDrive for Business cloud sync. We’re still looking at our broader sync strategy for Team Sites and On Prem. The existing sync client for OneDrive for Business will continue to support sync in these solutions."
Sync of team sites is very important. I know several businesses who only use the team site (because they want to share documents).
If you still have to run the old, broken sync client for team sites this is a massive disappointment and means users will still face sync errors, strange error messages etc.
We’ve recently rolled out support for syncing your Team sites (including O365 Groups) and shared OneDrive for Business folders. You can read more here: https://blogs.office.com/2017/01/24/onedrive-brings-new-file-collaboration-and-management-features-to-the-enterprise/ Thanks!
Will a higher-up at Microsoft please fire this team already? The state of OneDrive for the last 2 years is simply unforgivable.
The end is nigh. :-) It would be an awesome Christmas present if you got this done soon. :-)
Can scan file how recover
It's December and Mr. Krippner let us know it will be released before the end of the year. That means we only have 3 or so weeks left to get some of the bugs ironed out. I REALLY want this sync client to be successful as faith with my customers is waning on OD4B and SharePoint.
I believe the kink I mentioned before has been fixed as I haven't seen it in a week or so (Checking for changes sitting in limbo indefinitely unless client is restarted or computer is rebooted). I am however dealing with an issue randomly when a file is opened from explorer, I get a "Cannot Upload, Save a local copy" error. If I close and re-open the file, sometimes it goes away. This doesn't always occur and I haven't been able to pinpoint why it happens. If after several open/closes of the file and I keep getting the error, I can right click and close both white and blue clouds, relaunch OneDrive, and it works again for a while.
I've also been receiving an error that occasionally says, "Can not save because a file with that name already exist in <location>". This occurs when I open the file directly from the web. This one is more annoying because I'm not warned of the problem until I've tried to save my changes for the first time. Opening the file from the web and tapping ctrl+s before I've made any changes is now my new habit as I don't like redoing work.
Please have this worked out before GA.

Just tried the preview and the tools works on spec, in that you can sync files between your local copy and the team site, however you cannot work on any document in the local company directory. If you're working in any program other than Office, the client just complains that it cannot upload, then gives up. In Office apps (i.e. Word, PowerPoint, and Excel) the app will refuse to save an edited file if it is a local copy of a synced Document Library. So the team has started working on documents in an unsynced directory (i.e. My Documents) then copying the document into the synced directory.
Being able to work out of a synced directory should be basic functionality, even before a "preview" release.

it is impressive that you only manage to release the sync with teamsites over a year after the client has been released, Groove.exe is antiquated, outdated and not very stable, this feature should have been prioritized in the new client to support the vast number Office 365 clients you have, and you have made a lot of business continue to go to Dropbox and other solutions to fill this gap! very poor planning and execution.
Testing the preview version of the client. I'm enjoying it and I'm able to sync SharePoint documents but NOT Team Sites (despite using the .reg file provided). The client crashes whenever I try. This has happened for several weeks now despite reinstalling each time and using the client on different PC's. Support engineers spent hours with me without resolution.
PLEASE fix this before releasing final version
So we had some weird issue where the new sync client has been constantly syncing and burning bandwidth. 3 users running 10mbits each for days on end. Bit buggy still, not sure if it was a certain file as not all users experienced it

will ODFB NGSC sync properly with on-premise SP 2013 or just SP 2016 for both My Site OD and also with SP team site libraries ?

yes but what about ability to sync team sites to "on-premise" SP 2013 or SP 2016?
It sounds like the team site sync will only work on 365 team sites. please confirm.
I have tried out the "preview" and it is not at all what I was hoping for or expected.
It seems to allow you to manually sync files from SharePoint to your desktop, but not to automatically sync your OneDrive for Business account. Am I missing something? All we are hoping for is a Dropbox/Google Drive equivalent as part of the Office 365 suite.
Testing the preview version of the Sync Client. Although it looks promising, it is not yet finished:
1- Sometimes sync process stops without reason. Little blue arrows remain visible (that it should be syncing but nothing happens). Can be resolved by quiting OneDrive and re-starting it again.
2- I miss the right-click option to get a direct link to a file in Windows Explorer
3- I cannot work together on a Word, Ppt or Excel document which is placed in Groups with a colleague (at the same time). After opening the document, clicking the "+Share" button in the top-left corner, I get the message "We're still uploading your file. You can jump back in as soon as we're finished.". However, this does not end. Doc is already synced, so this message should not occur.
We use 100% standard solutions without any customizations: Win10, Office 365 with Office 2016, Sharepoint Online, Exchange Online, etc.

Also having some issues with just a few small files. Constantly looking for changes, Server files updated not being able to sync. That's it I give up. Rock solid it is mentioned by other user.
Looks like the client is working great for our sharepoint sites and Office 365 Groups (all online). Currently syncing about 10k files @ 50mbits. CPU is running at about 5% on a i5 gen3
After using the new sync client for about a week, I've noticed some issues. I already reported the issue with the app, but thought I'd give my experience here so others can do the same.
The app seems to take an extremely long time to find and sync new items. I've tried creating a small file online and several hours later it's still not in my local file explorer. I reversed and created a file locally and so far after over 15 minutes for a 10KB file it's still "syncing" and hasn't showed up online. Refreshes in both locations don't seem to do anything. The blue cloud is constantly "Processing changes". Rebooting the computer finally gives the client the jolt it needs to finish up.
I know it's not GA yet, but this has to be worked out before it does. I can imagine the file conflicts that will occur if this isn't resolved.

The Preview for the SharePoint Library Sync works great!. One improvement that should be nice is to be able to name/rename the folder to a more recognizable name. The <Site Name> - <Document Library Name> is a good starting point, but not always enough.
wtf are you doing fix your ****** app...
i want team sites not some my-site-sharepoint-wtf-is-this...
let's be clear, 'Team Sites' aren't some niche, they're proper SharePoint; Groups and OneDrive are all the slightly-******** cousins of real SharePoint. Its embarrassing how bad 1D sync of SharePoint is, I build enterprise SharePoint solutions every day, but tomorrow I have to go onsite I field barbs from 40 angry client users on OneDrive sync to SP libraries and why it's always broken.

How about support for on-premise SharePoint (team) sites? Tried the preview but only seems to be working with SharePoint online for now...

Preview build is super slow, OD process consistently gobbles 25% of my CPU and seems to struggle with ~50k that I have (since none were uploaded overnight).
Any better experiences over there?
