Fully support synchronisation of Sharepoint/O365 Document Libraries, including Checkout/Checkin
While you can currently configure OneDrive to synchronise a Document Library which requires files to be checked out, this just gives you files and folders on your computer with the Read-only attribute set.
If you open a file Word 2016 will tell you it's an offline file, and it failed to contact the server. If you ask Word to re-open the file online, you can then Checkout, save and Checkin the file.
This extra step shouldn't be necessary, and you should be able to see Checkout status in Explorer and right-click to Checkout/Checkin
I need that. Why can't I vote for it?
This would be a very important feature to get rid of network attached SharePoint libraries, and with it get an easy, clean and fast document management for our users. Checkout/Checkin is vital for us, but also browsing the libraries in Windows Explorer. Both are currently not possible without the error-prone, slow and cumbersome to use network drives.
It would be very easy to reduce the editing capability in offline scenarios.
It would be nice to have the status for Checkout/Checkin set as a button for the documents that are synced in OneDrive, so the customers can edit them while they are offline. After offline editing, once the customers are back online, the sync with the SharePoint library should be possible so the latest changes would be reflected also in the SharePoint library. There are situations when offline working is necessary and so is keeping the check-in/check-out/ versioning settings enabled.
