search function bug...
Appears to be a "search" function bug for pc (WIN 10 - Chrome, Firefox & Internet Explorer)
Within OneDrive, we all know there is currently a "search everything" option.
- As the Admin: I type in the details of my desired search and press "enter". The optional files containing the contents of my search in the files/file names are populated. When I click on one of the files, a new tab opens stating "This item might not exist or is no longer available". Obviously a bug, because the file does in fact exist. How do we know the file exists? Glad you asked :)
A) file was found and generated after search
B) I can go back to the main "files" screen and manually follow the path starting by opening the parent folder and every subfolder until I get to the desired file
C) the search option works flawlessly via the android mobile app & the apple mobile app
D) if I did NOT press "enter" after typing the desired search credentials, the files show up on a drop down menu that I can successfully access with no problems by clicking on one.
So, there's the proof the file exists.
Next... logged in under a different account (as a user with "view only" access & from a different pc): The exact same problem exists. The "view only" user can search and see the populated files containing the search credentials, but cannot open the files. They receive the same error as mentioned above. From their mobile devices, everything works perfect and they have no issues.
The only difference associated with the "view only" user, is that when the "view only" user types in the search credentials, without pressing "enter", and clicks on one of the files from the drop down list of files generated by the search, they receive a "404 not found" error.
Again, all files exist. We have proven this. I have even spent multiple hours with a Microsoft CSR helping to troubleshoot the issue. He was able to log into my computer and view my screen as I showed him the issues and how they differed from multiple users. The Microsoft CSR took things a step further and recreated the same scenarios on the computer he was using. He discovered the same problems on his end.
In conclusion, the CSR stated that this was an issue with "backend" coding and that he would report the bug and for me to come back in a month if the issue had not been resolved. Guess what? It's been a month and still no fix. I understand that my problem with the program is not the only known bug. And I know that sometimes fixes take longer than expected. No problem. It is what it is. I'm not posting this to vent or throw a childish tantrum. I'm merely following the instructions given to me today by the latest Microsoft CSR. He asked me if there were any posts on uservoice regarding this bug. And if I could not find any, then he suggested that I post it here.
Again, everything on the mobile apps are working fine. No complaints. The problem only exists from a pc or laptop. I'm very surprised that I have not been able to locate this same issue mentioned anywhere else. I assume this is not an isolated incident. Any and all suggestions are more than welcome. Thanks in advance for all help offered.
