Update 'OneDrive for Business' to sync with a network drive
OneDrive for Business currently only syncs with a directory on the C:\ drive.
In a Business environment, users have a personal drive (called H:\ drive here) where they store documents and data.
Please make OneDrive for Business sync a directory in the H:\ drive.
This is the default data drive for users - so it's where they expect to start a navigation to a file. Seriously, who (in a business environment) stores data on C:\ drive where it isn't backed up?
This also makes it easy to switch out a laptop for a new one. Nothing is on the c:\drive.
When a business has thousands of laptops, this stuff makes a big difference.
Thanks for the suggestion – it’s definitely a valid scenario. Being transparent we’ve got other engineering priorities right now and so won’t be able to address this in the short term. We’ll revisit this scenario once our short to mid-term feature investments are delivered.
We will not use OneDrive until we can re-locate to network drives or mapped drives. As a VDI shop, sending to the profile only bloats it on login. Not useful, not valuable.
Two years later, still a very wanted feature but nothing done...
We should be able to designate which file path gets uploaded and sync'd.
Yep. Microsoft does not give a **** about its business customers. I've had it with MS software that does not work.
This would be super helpful for us as well instead of having to turn to 3rd party tools
Please fix this. My organization does not store anything on local PC. Everything is in a home folder on the network. Please allow syncing network folder with ODB. Thanks

I wanted to share with you my results after a quick google search, I found a working solution!
For those that don't want to click the link...
This worked perfectly - but for the less technical
open the command prompt as administrator.
Search for cmd - then right click and change select run as administrator.
Change to your one drive folder using cd
eg cd c:\Users\YourUserName\Onedrive
Make the link to your nas or network storage
mklink /D "rentalbkp" "\\nasserver\rental"
This makes One Drive sync completely useless in a thin client environment.
Pull your head out of the sand Microsoft - you have had over two years of people asking for this......

We store nothing locally on any PC PLEASE make available the ability to sync to a network folder. I do not backup each PC. Collaboration in any business is not storing documents on a local PC it is storing it on a server where everyone can access it.

Is it time yet?
Please give us the ability to sync network drives.
We're a couple of years down the road. When will this become possible? My business is currently suffering from this silly rule. My SSD is intended for OS only, not for storage of data. It's almost full now. For data, God invented the network drive. I REALLY NEED to be able to sync to a network location. It wasn't a priority 2015, it should be by now.

Basic business functionality missing from Onedrive for Business, had our MD call me yesterday, to explain why he could not select a network drive to synch so he has access whilst out of office on devices.

I am absolutely gobsmacked this is simply 'not a priority' for Microsoft. In this day and age where SSD rules on smaller lighter devices and offloading 'business' storage to shared external drives is the norm. My scenario, I run Parallels so cannot share between Mac and Win without TWO OneDrive clients - which also don't copy across the network - everything must go thru the cloud.
Frankly its just plain stupid !!!!!
Dropbox and Box both allow it along with many others, it would be so easy to implement with aliases or symbolic links too (and yes, Mac and Windows clients) . . . time to revisit I think
Come on guys, get this sorted. Its difficult to believe that this feature wasn't in the short to mid term plans in the first place!

a link for this brand new version???
ugh!!!!! I thought this was fixed in the new update!!!
As usual Microsoft puts out half baked software. It's called OneDrive for Business, meaning that it is for business solutions. This is no solution only adds an additional problem. I am sure that Microsoft Employees are not saving any data to workstation hard drives, therefore why would any other business environment. This adds an extra step for users making it a feature less appealing. Meanwhile, the TB of space available is just being wasted. Not to mention OneDrive does not handle incremental syncs very well either. There are so many features to O365 & most of them not used by users for its convoluted UX.

Very disappointing that this simple functionality has not been included. Like many other academic institutions listed below this has caused a dead stop in our migration strategy. The web client is not helpful either. A lack of response from the dev team over this speaks volumes
sync is unusable for schools / colleges or even businesses with mandatory / roaming profiles with homedrives stored on network shares, please consider increasing the priority of this feature so we can utilise the cloud storage space provided via office 365,
