Folder selective sync with OneDrive for Business
I am using OneDrive for Business on Windows 8.1 PC and have 1TB plan. Once I upload files to OneDrive I don't want to download them all.
I want to be able select folders I want to sync so I don't need to download all files (1TB).
Problem described in http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/sharepoint/en-US/7f3e9994-9ca3-4550-b82e-2bfe64eab692/folder-selective-sync-with-onedrive-for-business?forum=sharepointgeneral

OneDrive for Business now supports selective sync with our first release of the new OneDrive sync client. You can read more about it at our blog post today: https://blogs.office.com/2015/12/16/onedrive-for-business-update-on-storage-plans-and-next-generation-sync-client/

If you select a folder to not be synced the stub folder disappears from explorer. What we need is for it to stay but only be available when you have network connectivity to the clould.

Do the developers really live in Ivory towers?? In what universe is it fixed when I have to sync an ENTIRE sharepoint site for one folder I want to work on while travelling.
I'd love a one on one with the developers but I have a feeling MS won't allow them to talk to people outside their siloed domains, they may just listen to what the users need....

Hi Jason,
I think selective sync only covers scenario with selecting folders from my own OneDrive for Business. It does not cover the scenario when I want to download a folder that has been shared with me from someone else's OneDrive for Business. So I don't see it as "BOOM IT'S DONE" yet, more like "WORKING ON IT" -

I am sure I don't have such function in new gen OneDrive for Business... Another feature which was implemented and magically is not available? WHERE IS SELECTIVE SYNC IN ODFB???
I watched video from Ignite presenting this feature - my OneDriveFB installed march 21 (new gen) dont have such interface or options. -

I hate to say it but OneDrive for Business is plain garbage. Every time I save something to onedrive I have to log in again. I have logged in over 20 times today.
I have to repair onedrive EVERY DAY! I currently have sync errors again. I have lost work on numerous files several times.
The majority of searches in the Microsoft community turn up posts where the Microsoft support is telling someone to post to another forum.
This is completely ridiculous. Dropbox does this already. Why cant Microsoft get synching done right?

All of our users are on RDS 2012 R2 which is essentially Win 8.1 - the new client doesn't yet support Win 8.1 . Not done for us yet.....

I am previewing the selective sync. I have Office 2013 and am unable to share files opened from the local folder - they are not recognized as being "in the cloud" as the files in the original OD for Business were and files in OneDrive.

Dropbox only cost me $9.99 a month for a terabyte, has had this feature years before it was requested, and has not given me a single headache while Sharepoint has been nothing but a cluster since day one. Thank you for wasting my time and money.

Microsoft is just more irrelevant as a company day by day.

Will we also be able to 'add shared folders' to our 'own' onedrive when this is released, we use folders internally that sit on one persons one drive and share access across the company.
We want to use the new preview version of onedrive sync, with the selective folders, but we would need to be able to add the shared folders to our own one drive to sync them as per this request for the consumer version:

It's amazing, the "private" version has this feature. I have to send to hundred of users an email introducing the O365 features, what should I say about OneDrive?
You can use but at your risk, it might use all your disk space and all the bandwidth.
Someone knows when MS will release a useful version of the client? -

Selective sync is in the preview, but the removal of the stub folders and files for those solely online makes the sync client quite a bit less useful.

I just installed the new preview sync client after I received an email invite. Selective Sync is available indeed, but now the files I didn't select aren't available from Explorer. This makes it pretty useless.

Jason - When is the OneDrive TAP program available? The TAP Program was announced with an end of September launch date. We are almost at the end of September!
The demo at Microsoft Ignite for Windows 10 is far superior to the current solution - a problematic OneDrive for Business solution, where files synchronization is a disaster, if it ever completes.
The issue becomes hyperbolic when a user has a desktop and laptop device, let allow when other users refer to the same file.
I implore you to offer the OneDrive unified app in the TAP program ASAP. If users are willing to take the risk with a beta software, then empower the user!
