Really fix Photo background uploading in iOS
I'm running the latest version of OneDrive on iOS 8.3 on an iPhone 6 Plus and this feature doesn't work as intended. Even with background refresh On and the location settings set to Always, I still have to manually open the app for new photos in my Camera Roll to sync to OneDrive. The only thing having Location set to Always gives me is a badge counter of how many photos need to be uploaded. It is never performed automatically. Please fix.
Additionally, I would prefer that automatic photo uploads from my Camera Roll to OneDrive be performed without leveraging Location Services. Letting it run in the background to collect new photos should be adequate.

Thank you for reporting. We are working to address complaints about iOS camera backup, and the best way to get an issue resolved is to submit your ticket through in-app support. This lets us use logs and personal account information to help debug the problem.
Our team will continue to make product reliability a top priority, and we use UserVoice to hear from our community which features you’d like to see the team work on next.

Major bug for me, as well. I don't have this issue with the Amazon Cloud Photos, Google Photos, or Flickr apps. Even 3rd party apps where you can choose to upload to OneDrive work reliably. Microsoft should fix this ASAP or disable the feature. The way it is implemented now is dangerous for users, giving them a false sense of security.

Same problem here. I can not understand why microsoft just decline this. It is a major bug and like others i almost lost pictures and videos of newborn if i not have double checked with one drive and my photo app on iphone. I have relied on one drive to be a perfekt backup solution since i hate photos on iOS .

The iOS OneDrive app is skipping files during photo sync. I can't see a pattern, it is seemingly random.
All pictures which have been skipped must be uploaded manually later on.
This is a MAJOR BUG, since it makes this service is totally unreliable!
This bug has already been reported, but has been "declined".
Please keep this open until it has been really fixed.
And when you fix it, please ensure that the app will copy all files which have been skipped since first-time installation of the app.Link to the declined bug:

There's a huge bug in the Camera backup system.
It's present in all three mobile platforms: IOS, Android and Windows.
It has been reported since December 2014.
There are several threads here, Douglas Pearce have responded to all of them, but a fix was not released.
We demand an answer: when will they fix the bug? Is it really a work in progress?

Please add an option to switch between upload and sync. Sync should make it possible, that photos are deleted from OneDrive, when I delete them from the photos on my iOS device.

If we add OneDrive background upload to their skipping photos bug you can see how good Microsoft is in developing it's software.

Does anyone know if this problem applies to Android? I shall test next week...

With regard to background uploading, I think the location service is a *must* on iOS so that the app can continue running in the background (e.g. detect new photos during a location change). I believe this is a "limitation" (actually, a "feature) in iOS to avoid runaway background processes that affect system performance and suck up battery in the background. My observation is that although the location service is on, the OneDrive app doesn't actually use a lot of battery (it is actually not using the GPS I think).
Also, my experience is that background upload in OneDrive actually works fine, including both photos and videos (even some relative large videos), when the phone is on the mobile network (3G or 4G in my case). I am confident that in my case most of the time OneDrive uploaded all the new photos and videos in the background while I am *not* connected to any WiFi network. However, when the phone is on a WiFi network, background upload simply does not work if the screen is off or the OneDrive app is running in the background. Reason? Again, this is a "feature" of iOS to avoid background processes sucking up all battery. Also, WiFi can be turned off by iOS when the device is in sleep mode (e.g. screen is off).
The above observation also applies to other photo backup apps such as DropBox, Amazon and Google.
So, if you want to backup all photos and videos using a Wifi network, run the OneDrive app and keep the screen on. Otherwise, iOS will kill the OneDrive app when it is running in the background.

Microsoft just release a new version of Onedrive for IOS. Only GUI updates.
Despite the update this bug remains there. We've been complaining for months on an important bug and they release a interface update? That's just disrespectful. -

I'm having the same issue! This is a serious problem - a backup app can't just miss some files and not even throw an error!!

Hi all,
After providing Microsoft with the feedback on below, they contacted me. They wanted to know if Stream and iCloud backup were enabled or not (only Stream is).
I added the tip to add the option to re-sync - to ensure skipped pics were added after all, and the option to select a separate (sub-) folder as mentioned by Andy below.
Microsoft apologized and said they were working on a fix... -

I already commented on another post but am pasting here just in case.
To build on this:
1. Add option to disable backing up of iCloud shared photos/photostreams. Under IOS8, Onedrive backs up every photo shared with us which means that multiple devices back up the same photos.
1b. If option 1 is enabled, add option to disable backing up if "Optimize Phone Storage" is set - this prevents low resolution versions of the original pictures being backed up.
2. Use whatever mechanism Dropbox has for background uploading as the current method uses far more battery than Dropbox does.
3. Fix duplicates!!!! We have multiple copies of the same photos now.
4. As per a separate suggestion, enable different folders for each device.

I'm having the same issue.. One drive backs up only one photo out of the several photos that I capture at one time. I have also send the feedback from the app as well.. I hope it gets fixed soon as I totally rely on one drive to back up my iPhone's photos.. Thanks

Also please make the background uploader function work. Like FULL TIME. It just drains my battery and it gives up after a while. Seems to me that onedrive has an auto-pause feature...

Not all of my images/videos in my camera roll are successfully backed up in OneDrive for iOS even though I have the Camera Roll Backup feature turned on and the status says "up to date".
I ended up having to copy all the images off my iPhone to a PC and do a folder diff with my OneDrive CameraRoll folder. What I found was occasional photos taken between Aug 2014 an Jan 2015 were not present in my OneDrive Camera Roll.
Before manually finding the differences, I was able to visually spot some missing photos in the OneDrive app. I tried signing out and even deleting and reinstalling the app to see if it would pick up the missing photos, but it didn't.
This issue has been reported before but Microsoft marked it as "denied".
