I suggest you make the OneDrive desktop app PORTABLE!! That way you may not even have to implement the LAN sync feature that many of us have requested.
If you make the application portable, then people will not have to download all of their data again from OneDrive server after formatting their PC/Laptop. In this particular case, LAN sync will not be required.
Secondly, it will be immensely beneficial for technicians and students too who cannot take their lappy/PC everywhere but can only carry a portable drive with them. And please...don't try to make $s off of this idea - make it free like the rest of the functionality in OneDrive!

Thanks for the feedback folks. Late last year we shipped the ability to have your OneDrive on a removable drive. We’ve also added a check in the case that you forget to plug it back in to get it reset up.

i copied the directory where installs onedrive to another location, then i uninstalled onedrive and i moved the copied folder to it's original location and run the exe and voila it really works even in wine of ubuntu as the original with the advantage to copy in a recently formatted partition instead to reinstall saves registry values that distabilish the system as you remember this isn´t linux!

@Jason Moore, you misunderstood this request. We would like to have a OneDrive Sync app which runs without installation e.g. having it on a usb key, run it, and it starts syncing without having it installed into the computers programm folder etc.

Since these questions don't appear to be answered, I have a feeling the admin misinterpreted the request, and the feature he reported as complete was the onedrive sync folder location can be on a removable drive. The software still has to be installed to the PC and is not portable, so this means the program itself is not portable.
From a scripting side, the program would have to run as a script as a different software name to not overwrite anything from an actually installed version of OneDrive on the computer you're using the portable drive on, write some temp reg keys, the program would have to require login after loading and not save login details due to security of potentially losing the device. It seems quite possible to do, even for a software junkie to figure out a suitable script, but my concern would be corruption; the files are syncing, so you can't remove the drive while the process is running, so it would require you to exit program prior to removing the device, and people are just horrible about removing devices properly, so it could be a huge headache for the many who would inevitably get corruption.

How this implementation works? I have searched over the web, but I could not find any reference to this new functionality.
I need to sync OneDrive with a folder on a computer that I don´t have admin rights, so I was wondering if there is a way to use a portable version of OneDrive on a pendrive. -

So OneDrive is now portable? How do I get that set up?
