Bring back static URLs for image files. Currently they change every day.
Prior to the month of May, images files stored on OneDrive had static URLs. "View Original" displayed the image using a static, unchanging URL. You could use it to link images to blogs, forums, web-pages, etc.
Since May, posted images no longer get a static URL; it changes at least once a day. It is no longer possible to link an image to a blog because the link is only valid for less than 24 hours. OneDrive is no longer a viable cloud-service provider for image files.

Please try out the new embed experience for photos. You’ll see an “embed” option in the command bar with options for getting the right image size for your site. Let us know what you think!

<embed> isn't a solution.
This only works for blogs and websites where one can insert their own HTML coding.
For forums and anything else that normal users need links for, <embed> still doesn't work.
...
Please don't act like you solved anything.
This isn't the solution for the problem that is presented.
The suggestion above actually *SAYS* "forums", for goodness sake! -

Hello, is there a way to get the embed links programmatically? Does any API support this?

Hi, It would be really handy to be able to right click any photo in the scrolling mode, and get Embed code directly straight away. If you're doing several images in a post the current method is a little long windows requiring several "stages" .

My Apologies to Microsoft. Today I saw that the OneDrive embed without html tags, can be inserted in blogger blogs. The light-box effect works fine. If you right click on Image and click "open in new.." you can download it. Then if you like later to watermark (by Windows Paint) or edit your photo (with Windows Photo Editor), you can do it in your local folder, click on save and the changes will be shown in the post. I love OneDrive!

Today, using the Windows 10 share App, I opened a Photo of OneDrive/photos, on my desktop and sent to my blogger blog to post by mail. It works fine. Now I wait to see if the link will change in time. I pray!

An <a href="OneDriveLInk"> in the code, can open files in OneDrive. Just tested in desktop and with
?m=1 simulation. -

Bah! It's half done. March 2017 now. Just a dead link image. You can not use it in Lightbox or open in new page. If you extract and use the link it works with lightbox, but the mobile user has a "no question" download. Please create a link in the code to open even in OneDrive.
(In blogspot blogs you can insert an .jpg extension image from your Google photos but they are not so ordered)
Thanks. -

You can get web links to your OneDrive files via WWW Drive (https://www-drv.com).

Nothing has changed. I'm trying to use one of my avatars through a URL, but none of the URLs OneNote provides (through Share, Embed, or View Original) will work. Come on MS! You can do better.

Links do not work with Live Journal. Need regular static link, not redirect and not page with slide show. A single static link to a single file. What is so complex about it?

Problem is Douglas, if we want to use an in site editor for the image, but it requires a static image link. The embed option does not work, as it fixates the image in such a way that it clashes with pre-built hosts like wordpress.

The embed function is close to useless as it
a) compresses heavily (even the original size of the image is compressed)
b) the embed function in OneDrive to generate the URL is almost never working. 80% of the time it gets stuck with a message like "please wait until link is generated ..." but never generates a URL)Please get us the original and simple of embedding image URL in OneDrive.
Thanks,

That embed options is useless since it only displays a horribly compressed version.

Why are changes made without informing your clients. It is like removing peanuts from peanut butter and keeping quiet.

The image quality of the embed image is horrible. It converted a 13.8KB PNG screenshot to a 40KB JPG that has blurry text and generally looks much worse despite being 3x the size.

Mike,
I second JK's comment:
If an embedded link is included between [URL] [/URL] tags, the usual internet method of <right click> and <save as> does not work as intended. It provides a obfuscated file name, stripped of the initial file extension (i.e. JPG). So, after each download, one has to go to the download folder and rename the downloaded files with the proper extension.
Not very convenient.
Is it is so complex to replicate the "original" method we had in the past with the "embed" system?
Many thanks,

Embedding an image in a [IMG][/IMG] tag seems now to work to be seen. Thanks.
What does not work is that the image is not the original, but a compressed version of it.
i.e. I uploaded a 1920x1280 image with 2 MB. Clicking on the embed option opens the UI and allows size selection like 1024px or 1920pix. Fine that the original image is resized and compressed for initial display if the option 1024px is choosen. But if the 1920x1280 option is selected, my assumption was that a static link to ORIGINAL file is being created. This seems not to be the case. The seemingly "original" 1920x1280 file is not sent to the browser, but a heavly compressed version of it (i.e. 260 KB in this case instead of the 2 MB version).
Could you please include in the filesize dialoge the option "original" so that we get an permanent link to the file as uploaded, and not as recompressed.
Thanks,
Andy -

@nine204, what are you missing? Click embed, get a static URL.
They still have things to fix around the Content-Disposition: Attachment header, meaning the URL downloads rather than displays the image if it's not inside an img tag. But what specifically are you looking for that embed doesn't give you?
