Remove the check marks for synced files
Remove the check mark for synced files. It should be blank when synced, not a check mark like in this photo. This is from Windows 10, the looks of synced files like windows 8 (without the check marks) is what I want.
Thanks for the suggestion. Just being transparent that we’re unlikely to change the model in the near future.
I just noticed it's changed to being a green tick on a white circle.
Biggest problem I have however is that you can't see which icons are shortcuts, the little arrow is overwritten by Onedrive's check marks.
I'd rather see the shortcut icon and blank for synced to Onedrive.
please make the green check mark smaller or remove it
I have nothing new to add, just adding my support to this suggestion.
I am another user really annoyed by that greencheck. What about users deciding if they want it or not ? At minima let this option available... I am thinking of disabling it on my pro notebook (already done on my personal one).

Seriously Douglas? The check marks that obscure the icon is a stupid idea that should be changed asap.
Your steps worked for me.
No more green checks on the Desktop icons.
Hopefully M$ will take the hint and resolve this in the future.
A quick workaround to try:
- Windows search "cmd"
- Right click cmd.exe and run as administrator
- Type the following line:
mklink /J "D:/Noticks" "C:/Onedrive-Company-with-ticks"
The "C:/Onedrive-Company-with-ticks" part needs to point to where the folder with the ticks is. The "D:/Noticks" can point to anywhere as long as the "Noticks" folder does not exist (obviously it can be called anything, Noticks is just for the example).
When this is done you can browse the Noticks folder as if it were your onedrive folder without any ticks.

This email thread....which I stumbled upon to find out if I can remove the awful ticks, has helped me reach the decision that I will not be continuing with my 365 trial. For ******* to respond like that to so many voices on the matter is just shocking. I cannot understand why you won't make this optional when clearly so many people are unhappy about it.
Icons are in the wrong place - should NOT be overlaid on top of file icon. Please change as this is slows down everyone's work.
These are horrendous. Its impossible to distinguish file type at a glance which has been the case since ... the 1980s? FYI, the is my first time ever submitting any opinion in any online comment post, anywhere. That's how bad this is. PLEASE FIX.
These are terrible. I disable OneDrive completely from my personal computer because of this ****. I don't even like files on my desktop from my work computer because I am tired of seeing green check marks.

Please move the check mark off of the file type (move to the right). I like being able to see a file has saved, but I also find it very useful to know what the file type is at a glance.
The green check marks are awful. Fix it.

Yep! Make these optional, they are not good. Can you say "intern"! Can't see what the file type is.
Many changes to office over the years look amateurish, this is one of them. I am sure the best designers used to work for MS, but based on UI design like this, they left MS a long while ago . Maybe the job was handed to a trainee

***********, just being transparent, GET A CLUE and listen to what everyone is saying! Follow the UI standards that have been established over the decades!
Yeah, the check mark is absurd. There are so many other more effective ways to show that the file is synced that DON'T prevent you from seeing what type of file you have.

Make the check marks smaller or remove it. At least have a toggle feature on/off feature for the display of check marks!
It makes it hard to recognize what file type it is. Serious oversight.
Please remove the checkmarks
I agree, extremely annoying not to be able to toggle feature on/off. Disappointing that you are not open to feedback.
