Remove the check marks for synced files
Remove the check mark for synced files. It should be blank when synced, not a check mark like in this photo. This is from Windows 10, the looks of synced files like windows 8 (without the check marks) is what I want.
Thanks for the suggestion. Just being transparent that we’re unlikely to change the model in the near future.
I agree, very annoying with the green icons over the files, you don't see the file type. Please solve this!
I agree, the big green check mark obscures the icon info. Either make it smaller or get rid of it!!!!
Just got Onedrive. It is unbelievably stupid that this is still an issue.
Doug's indication that this will not be resolved anytime soon is ridiculous, and suggests Microsoft have yet another prioritisation issue, not to mentioned a lack of control over QA to allow this bug into production in the first place.
One would have thought Microsoft was looking to improve the inter-operability of it's ecosystem not allow two systems to conflict and reduce value for so long. Over 40 years on and the fact that Microsoft still struggle with software development begs belief.
I should add that these icon overlays conflict with the shortcut icon overlays.
On Windows, when you create a shortcut to a file or folder, an arrow-shaped icon overlay appears on the bottom-right side of the shortcut icon.
When you sync this shortcut with OneDrive, OneDrive's sync status indicator replaces the shortcut icon overlay. It's not that it covers the arrow-shaped icon, but it replaces it.
Please look into this, as this really makes things confusing. The shortcut icon overlay is pretty much the only explicit indication of a shortcut.
THANK YOU GREG ODELL, your suggestion worked with Norton Security settings, thanks this has been driving me crazy for weeks.

These green check marks make it 10 times hard to find the correct document. I can no longer tell at a glance if it's and Excel, Work or PowerPoint document because the green check mark is covering the file type. Now I have to sort they files by type so I can "read" the file type. Very, very inefficient.
Please make Green check marks smaller

IF you are not letting people remove the checkmarks, could you at least move them to a position where it's still possible to visually identify the file type, Word, Excel, Pdf etc.
painful ... very painful

Just adding to this comment. The checkmarks are so large, they make it very hard to see file types at a glance. Very annoying. My job forced this update on us and I hate it a lot so far.

I removed my green checks by just refreshing the desktop. Right click, choose refresh. Gone. WIll they return? Maybe.

After trying to remove the big green ticks, for a lot of hours , I have solved the problem ( if you are using Norton security )
Go to Settings in Norton security / Tick - back up settings / Turn off back up status overlay.
Restart your computer = no more ticks

Dear Microsoft - The green/white check marks are so bad they make it extremely difficult to view my photo icons in my file folders. They are sized such that they fill up almost a quarter of each icon photo. Since its now April 2018, has Microsoft provided a way to shrink the check mark size or better yet eliminate them?

Nice, I posted a comment on how to do this easily with a free 3rd party utility, and the comment has been removed. Let's try again without a link.
Use NirSoft ShellExView and disable UpToDateOverlayHandler Class. Restart PC or Windows Explorer. That'll remove the green tick, but leave the other useful status icons.
yup - these suck. It's silly that they go directly over the Microsoft Office logo, so I cant tell if its a word or an excel file.
make the green checkmark smaller at least.
very irritating - surely I can remove these check marks

Well, I came here to get some help removing these stupid green check marks and found out I can't and that Windows 10 is automatically syncing and uploading, etc. I personally hate this.
If I can find a way to do away with OneDrive I will, but it looks like I can't do that either.

Douglas Pearce just to be transparent with you. Microsoft is not listening to their customers, the people that pay your salary. The check marks are annoying. Please be transparent and tell us why its necessary to have a check mark blocking the icon.
