  1. Allow any folder to be synced

Currently if you want to sync files they must be saved to \users<username>\OneDrive. This is way too limiting!!! Need to be able to define any folder in any path to be a synced folder.

  2. Allow OneDrive folder to be on a Storage Space (ReFS File System)

With OneDrive storage allowances greatly increasing, I would like to be able to move my local OneDrive folder into my Storage Space. My primary hard drive is an SSD with limited space. Currently, OneDrive folders are limited to NTFS formatted drives/partitions.

  4. Enable multiple sync folders or syncing behind junction points/symbolic links.

With theoretical "ulimited" storage now being offered, maybe its time to look over how people will be using the software to make use of this. I find it practically impossible to sync or upload the files from my local server which are housed on 5 seperate physical harddrives. Can you please implement possibility to use several onedrive sync folders, syncing behing junctions or symb. links, or a different solution to support the "unlimited" storage which you sell.

Maybe FTP would be a good easy way to start.

Thanks for the suggestion. Just being transparent that we aren’t likely to do this in the near term.

  5. Allow renaming root folder (OneDrive folder)

Currently renaming of Root folder ( OneDrive ) is not allowed. ( At least I am not aware of how to do it).

This feature enables me in hiding the fact that this folder is cloud based ( backed up in cloud ). This is particularly helpful in office enviornment where lot of orgnizations don't want employees to upload data to any cloud based websites.

Thanks for the suggestion. Just being transparent, this is not something we are likely to get to in the new future.

  6. Use a file to ignore / exclude files or folder

Add functionality similar to a gitIgnore file or nomedia files. Allow a user to add a .ignore file to exclude local files or folders from being synced.

Example: I have NodeJS projects on my OneDrive but get sync errors because the file path is too long. The long paths are primarily extra modules that do not need to be synced. It would be nice to be able to exclude certain folders or files.

Hi, for this scenario we’d recommend putting the files outside of the OneDrive folder. The design is that all files in the OneDrive folder will be sync’d and files outside the folder will not be sync’d.

  7. Remove the need for Office Upload Center if you are using OneDrive

As an O365 Home subscriber, I use my unlimited OneDrive storage to store my files. These include my pictures, videos, music and documents. On my Surface Pro 3, I have O365 Home installed which also includes the Office Upload Center.

To me, it seems redundant to have the OneDrive Sync functionality AND the O365 Upload Center available. In fact, the Upload Center stores an additional copy of my office files (under AppData) even when those files are stored within my OneDrive directory (and locally available). This seems like a waist of storage space (11 GB in my case) and periodically…

The Office integration support in OneDrive connects your document to the OneDrive service, allowing for you to automatically co-author when opening files locally, share from the backstage, and more.

You can choose to turn this off. On Windows 8.1, you must uninstall the Microsoft OneDrive app from the Add/Remove Programs. On Windows 7 or 10, you can right-click on the systray icon, access the Settings menu and uncheck the Office integration checkbox. This will prevent the Office Upload Center from being involved in your uploads.

  8. Enable mapping online folders to different local drives

Now that OneDrive supports very large storage it would be nice to be able to map different online folders to distinct local paths in the Windows/Mac clients.

  9. Selective Sync + Smart File Hybrid

Both placeholder files & selective sync both have their pros and cons. Please think about taking the pros from both and creating an innovative hybrid (Pros & Cons section below).

    ======== Hybrid Explaination ========

The 2 parts of this hybrid feature:
    (1) Selective sync selects the folders to appear.
    (2) Allow these files/folders from (1) to be right-clicked & kept online, so they can be treated as placeholders.

    The result:
1] For folders that are non important for one desktop/laptop, we can leave them out entirely.
2] For the important folders with large files (projects, videos, ISOs), we can see…

Hi folks – Appreciate the thinking and write-up. We’ve spent some time thinking about this and it’s unlikely to be our approach. That’s partly because it really compromises both sides – one of the reasons people like selective sync is the simplicity of what it means. And on the other side, placeholders allowed you to see everything without having to decide on syncing.

    Keep the ideas coming!

  10. Password Protection while Access of Onedrive Folder within File Explorer in Windows 8.1

It will be helpful if password protection introduced while accessing Onedrive folder from File Explorer in Windows 8.1. So if we want to access Onedrive folder we must enter Password to Access it every time

Hi, we treat the OneDRive folder like a folder on your file system – so there isn’t a way for us to separately put a password on that folder.

  11. Integrate with History File

Windows 8/8.1 supports File History which allows you to see all previous versions of files on your folders, which is specially useful for a little in loco version control when dealing with projects that has many changing files.

But currently this feature requires another disk drive or a network drive.

Windows could automatically use OneDrive to store those files for each account, and present them to the user, downloading the previous versions as needed (similar on how OneDrive currently works on 8.1)

  12. Please Add A Manual Sync now button on desktop icon

Please Add a Manual Sync now button when clicking the desktop icon (windows 10) I often find that the files aren't uploaded when they are saved. I don't leave my computers on overnight, this means usually after saving my work on my computer I shut it down. On windows 8.1 I normally would just click on the cloud icon and manually sync. Without that button I'm already noticing files not being updating on my other PC and I have no way to force it to update. Thank you!

  13. Remove the check marks for synced files

Remove the check mark for synced files. It should be blank when synced, not a check mark like in this photo. This is from Windows 10, the looks of synced files like windows 8 (without the check marks) is what I want.

Thanks for the suggestion. Just being transparent that we’re unlikely to change the model in the near future.

  14. Exclude folders inside OneDrive Folder from synching.

Right now if you choose a folder inside Onedrive Folder to unsync that folder gets deleted from my PC. But I want that folder to remain in Onedrive Folder on my PC and not be syncing.

Thanks for the suggestion. Just being transparent that this is not something we’re likely to get to in the near future. If it just need to turn of sync temporarily, we now have pause available although this will apply to all folders.

  16. Show progression bars on file icons when synchronising or uploading

Show progression bars on file icons instead of the static 'refresh' icon.

  17. Streaming Videos/Documents/Music/Pictures/Others

Other cloud services allow the streaming of files (video, music, documents, etc etc) from the desktop client. Bitcasa is the service I'm coming from and they had an excellent service set up to stream files (of all sorts, it even streamed documents and photoshop files). If your files are set to 'online-only', then every file you try to use will be downloaded before you can play it/view it/use it.

If you're offering unlimited storage, chances are people will be saving every family video and every family photo onto your service which means they will not have the space on their…

Thanks for the suggestion. We do offering streaming of videos from the website. And the new Photos app in Windows 10 will let you browse your photos in OneDrive without having to download them all to your computer. But we don’t think we’ll build generalized streaming support like this in the near future.

  18. Allow multiple OneDrive accounts integrated into Windows Explorer

Currently, even if you integrated multiple OneDrive accounts, only the one in which you are logged on is integrated into Windows Explorer. Allowing to use as many OneDrive accounts you have integrated into Windows Explore would make OneDrive even more relevant.

Understand the request, but we have no plans to support multiple OneDrive personal accounts per OS user account.

  19. Syncing files between computers without storing on OneDrive

Currently, for a file to be synced, it must be uploaded to OneDrive. I would like the option to simply sync files between computers WITHOUT having them actually stay on my OneDrive.

Basically like the old Fetch feature, but with automatic syncing of selected files. I believe Windows Live Mesh (very old version of OneDrive) had a feature like this too.

Sorry, but this kind of feature is not consistent with how we think of evolving OneDrive. OneDrive is not p2p sync.

  20. GET RID OF WINDOWS 8!!!

GO BACK TO AT LEAST SOME OF THE BASICS...THIS WINDOWS 8 SUCKS BIG TIME!!!!! AS SOON AS I CAN GET SOMEONE TO FIX IT BACK TO WINDOWS 7, I WILL! AS FOR THIS ONE DRIVE, I HATE IT! I WANT TO BE ABLE TO CLICK ON A BUTTON FROM THE START MENU AND SEE MY PICTURES...I JUST HATE THIS!!!!!
