  1. Sync Start menu / Start screen across our devices to OneDrive (please read)

OneDrive used to support syncing your Start experience across your devices. It was always an option, along with syncing your wallpaper, lock screen, and other settings to OneDrive across your devices. Unfortunately, OneDrive in Windows 10 no longer supports this feature. Let's take a look at the three main problems, and see why the time has never been better for Start sync:

    Difficulty #1:
In Windows 8.1, many Windows Phone apps weren't available on PC and vice versa, which meant Start sync left "holes" where certain apps didn't exist on a given platform. However now with Windows 10, we have…

  2. Add a dark theme to the mobile apps to save battery life and reduce eye strain

A dark theme can reduce battery life on AMOLED screens and reduce eye strain when using the phone at night in a dark envoronment

This is an interesting idea, but not something we are going to consider in the near future. In the interest of being honest, we are declining things that aren’t on our roadmap.

  3. Allow users to select any custom folder without /onedrive/ in path

I would love to see the option of being able to point the OneDrive desktop application to any folder I choose WITHOUT it adding the /onedrive/ folder to the path.

Ie: If I set onedrive to C:/PersonalFiles/, it will automatically create C:/PersonalFiles/OneDrive/. This forces me to put everything I want to backup in that folder. So instead of OneDrive working with me in the way I want to use it, it annoys me with another subfolder I dont want.

This is also a problem when combining onedrive with other applications where I might not have the option of redirecting that…

Thanks for the suggestion. Just being transparent that we aren’t likely to get to this in the near future. We do support changing the root location of your OneDrive if that helps.

  4. Loosen up on content allowed on OneDrive -- current policy would ban most users

After hearing about users who had their entire Microsoft accounts frozen without warning and without being allowed to retrieve their data, apparently over files that they'd uploaded (privately) to their OneDrive, I looked into the Code of Conduct again and was baffled by how broad the restrictions are. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows-live/code-of-conduct

Taken broadly (which Microsoft apparently is doing, based on previous suspensions) this would prohibit storing TONS of harmless, legal, common content. Given that Office 365 users receive 1TB/unlimited OneDrive storage, presumably we're encouraged to use it as a backup service and transfer much of our hard drive there. I would very…

You referenced an old page. OneDrive is covered by the new Microsoft Services Agreement – https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/servicesagreement

    3. Code of Conduct.
    a. By agreeing to these Terms, you’re agreeing that, when using the Services, you will follow these rules:
    i. Don’t do anything illegal.
ii. Don’t engage in any activity that exploits, harms, or threatens to harm children.
iii. Don’t send spam. Spam is unwanted or unsolicited bulk email, postings, contact requests, SMS (text messages), or instant messages.
iv. Don’t publicly display or use the Services to share inappropriate Content or material (involving, for example, nudity, bestiality, pornography, graphic violence, or criminal activity).
    v. Don’t engage in activity that is false or misleading (e.g., asking for money under false pretenses, impersonating someone else, manipulating the Services to increase play count, or affect rankings, ratings, or comments).
vi. Don’t circumvent any restrictions on access to or availability of the Services.
    vii. Don’t…

  5. Make it possible to ignore build artifacts

When using OneDrive as a location development projects (e.g. Visual Studio Projects, nodejs, ...) the folder contains a lot of build artifacts which shouldn't be uploaded to OneDrive. Those files can't be put outside of the OneDrive folder because the development tools expect them to be there. This causes unnecessary load and other problems (e.g. long file paths) for the local machine and the OneDrive service.

OneDrive should be configurable at the folder level to include/exclude certain files. Configuration could be done in a '.onedrive' file for example and work recursively in the folder tree (like gitignore).

    The .onedrive file…

We like the suggestion and the approach with the .onedrive file. But we want to be transparent that we aren’t likely to get to this in the near future.

  6. Sync scheduler

Add a scheduler for downloads/uploads. It would be nice if we could keep for example a computer running but configure that the synchronization should only happen between a specific timeframe (e.g. between midnight and 8AM). The reasoning behind this is that a lot of internet providers with a fair use policy and when you download/upload large quantities of data during off-peak hours they only count for 50% or even 20%, so every 1MB that you download/upload only counts for 0.5MB or even 0.2MB.

Thanks for the suggestion. If you’re trying to optimize for “initial sync” when deploying to your company, we have a group policy for throttling to help minimize impact on your network. We also have a pause feature that an end user can take advantage of.

Once you’re fully up in running, we need to make sure we always deliver on the promise of sync which is that your changes will be reflected everywhere. This is critical to avoid painful conflicts and confusion about why updates aren’t reflected in documents.

We don’t have the ability to take time of day into consideration on throttling yet, but that could be a really interesting feature that helps you manage this.

  7. Mount or sync onedrive in linux

I'd love to have access to onedrive from Linux (Debian). Either as a mountable volume or syncing. Especially from the command line!

  8. Create a Linux OneDrive client

It would be good to have an official OneDrive client that would allow us to sync files to Linux based machines in the same way as is possible for Windows/OS X.

  9. "Hybrid Cloud" OneDrive API for NAS and Home Servers

I would like to be able to essentially "add" my NAS or WHS storage to my OneDrive by using something similar to the "fetch" or windows live mesh functionality of old. Basically, I like to be able to add a folder to my OneDrive folder that links to my NAS. When I'm on my home network, it would behave like a mapped drive, but when I'm on a mobile network, it would appear just like another OneDrive folder, albeit with different network characteristics. Setting it up shouldn't be any more difficult than setting up web access for WHS via your…

  10. Roku app

Roku is the #1 streaming media hardware in the U.S. If we could get an app to show our family our photo albums and videos, we could expose lots of family to the great service that is OneDrive.

  11. Mark files as can not be deleted

Currently, when I delete a OneDrive file on a client (phone/tablet/laptop), the file gets deleted on OneDrive and on all other clients. This is the right thing for many situations.

HOWEVER, there are some situations where I want to ensure files are not deleted. Examples are using OneDrive for backups or archiving (e.g. photos/videos).

It would be great to be able to mark files as can not be deleted.

  12. to allow people without microsoft account to share files on a shared Onedrive folder

Hello, I would like to know if it's possible somehow to share files to a shared OneDrive frolder without having a Microsoft account:
i.e. I share a folder with some friends who don't have a microsoft account, they can download the files without any problema and I have granted them edition permissions, but if they want to upload files to the folder they are redirected to a Microsoft account login webpage,so:

Is there a way of sharing files to a shared OneDrive folder without a Microsoft account?

    Thanks

  13. Allow control of space allocation for Office365 subscribers

With the recent news of Microsoft removing unlimited storage many people including myself are upset since we paid for Office 365 under that assumption. What I would like to see is at least allow me as the main subscriber decide how to split the 5 TB my account is allowed since I can have 5 users each allowed 1 TB. This would allow me who needs more storage to take it from family members who don't need it, yet doesn't cost Microsoft anything additional.
