Thanks for the suggestion. We’re very excited to deliver Files On-Demand with Windows 10 RS3 and we’re thinking about other platforms.

FOD on Server 2016 please!!!!!!! 75% of our estate uses Citrix Published Desktop via RDS on Server 2016

      • Roderick Zoeteman commented  ·   ·  Flag as inappropriate

Please bring this feature to Citrix and RDS environments. It would be great for users working on server 2012R2 and 2016.

We also have a need for files on demand with the server 2016 operating system. This gives us more flexibility in how we get the user base to adopt Office265 cloud products.

Need this to be available on Remote Desktop Servers. - we have a couple of Win32 apps that our mac users need to access, and these apps need access to the users documents, which are on OneDrive. So with a couple of hundred users we really need FoD to work.

Fucntionality already available from google and dropbox and owncloud and egnyte ... list goes on. Along with missing LAN sync : As everyone has hinted you are limiting the product use and forcing customers to pay for other solutions (which loses them permanently from paying them for additional storage of yours)

Given Windows 2016 and Windows 10 are fundamentally the same underlying operating system, why not bring FOD and Edge Browser to this platform for RDS/Citrix? There's lots of demand for this. Come on Microsoft, listen to your fans/customer base!

Do you not understand that if Onedrive is not available to be used with Windows Server, RDP/Citrix admins are then forced to use someone else's cloud storage instead. While you are thinking about it, please take a moment to appreciate the fact users need a third party cloud storage service in order to access it using a Microsoft operating system.

we also need the on-demand function on Windows Server 2016. Are there any developments in progress?

      • Johan Mederyd commented  ·   ·  Flag as inappropriate

I was so happy when I found settings for it in the GPO. But then i learned it's only for Win 10. We need this for our 2012 R2 RDS-servers. Don't need offline access to the files there, but we need the disk space.

Any further update? - it's been 6 months since the 'we're thinking about it' post. It would be amazing to have OneDrive Files on Demand on your server products, to support VDI.

Absolutely needs to be brought to Windows Server 2016. Why does Microsoft never think of the massive RDS and Citrix Xenapp deployments?

if Files on Demand was available with Win10 RS3 in teh fall, then is it supported on Server 2016 as well, and it not yet, what version of 2016 will support or include the NGSC OneDrive Files on Demand.

Yes please, we've a lot of customers using Office 365 and RDS and this feature is essential to save SSD space on RDS hosts...
