I suggest you ...

Allow files that have special characters in the name to be uploaded

This makes it hard to convert users in our company.

The world is a just a little bit larger than the U.S. of A. There are names with special Characters all over the world. I just received my invoice for renewal and will need to explain my customer, a lawyer, that it's just too bad, but he will have to go thru all of his dossiers and change the names of his clients, and instruct the personnel not to use the clients real name, but the American version of the name when they need to search. This is sad.

"BOOM! IT'S DONE"...but only for two characters...and only for the people who pay us the most money. Meanwhile literally every other cloud service knows its not the '90s anymore.

I use the format dd-mm | project in a yyyy folder in my photos workflow. It means when you are scanning down a list of projects in any year the names line up for easy reading. That | symbol is an invalid chr for OneDrive so I cannot use it for the main reason I subscribe. There are too many years & folders to change to say ; which serves the same purpose. Many photo enthusiasts/pro's use this file format. Annoyingly when I did try porting folders over it did not tell me the reason it was not working was an invalid chr right away, I only figured it out by accident. Hours of transfer time wasted!!

How about possible date for this change, Lord knows we won't hold you to it... but I need to know NOW if I need to push two of my clients to a different service

Please fix this soon. One example is that I cannot backup/upload Visual Studio project related files because of C#.

Dropbox handles this perfectly... I was going to switch but CAN'T - hundreds of auto-generated files either have special characters or begin with a space and OneDRive FAILS

My company just have moved email server from local to MS could (Office365 & Onedrive business), but I am very unhappy with Onedrive business which can not sync my file with special characters. Onedrive stop immediately sync if found any file name with special characters. So fix this please. One more thing, I can sync all my files with special characters on Dropbox without any issues.

@Jason Moore, any updates on the status of this? It is still causing problems when using the latest Next Gen Sync Client on Windows and OneDrive for Business (first release tenant).

That's nice for business users, but what about OneDrive Personal. I think the limitation on allowing "all" other special characters and symbols that other cloud services allow, hurts your business. For example, I am seriously considering to not renew our Office 365 subscription. Having the larger OneDrive available with it is a selling point, but I've had to revert back to Dropbox, which sync all these special characters. Justification for many, like "|" is because they're invariably part of URL names when you copy them to save as .webloc files.
