Allow any folder to be synced
Currently if you want to sync files they must be saved to \users<username>\OneDrive. This is way too limiting!!! Need to be able to define any folder in any path to be a synced folder.

Understand the request, but there are no plans for this at this time.

This would be a great idea. Just right click any folder on your computer and Sync to one drive

MSFT: please revisit this idea. I also want it. I may look into using the MKLINK command to make folder junction points from the location I want to the actual folder in the OneDrive Sync location. It's a hack and I haven't tested this yet, but it would allow me to have a folder called Code in my OneDrive folder but reference it as C:\Code. https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc753194.aspx

Like others on this thread, I'm a SugarSync user who has become disgruntled and and am likely to try the first vendor that adds this feature.

I want to add my voice to those requesting this capability. I have been using sugarsync for some years now but felt the time may have come to move to Office 365 and OneDrive: then I discovered this limitation. On my primary machine most (but not all) of my key data is held in folders on a second physical drive. These map to folders under my documents on my laptop. No problem with sugarsync, but apparently impossible with OneDrive. This is not a reasonable limitation for a cloud backup/sync solution in 2016. Looks like I won't be taking up Office 365 until its addressed.

Thank you for the response "Understand the request, but there are no plans for this at this time.".
Is there any chance that this could be re-evaluated now that a couple of years have passed? I would love to have this, and I know judging by the comments that many others would too.

And, here we are in 2016 and still not available. I assume MS are scared people will sync more stuff if they are allowed to sync any folder so they will not allow it to save money. Very poor decision. If I was not forced to use it by my company, I would not touch this "service" with a bargepole. MS living down to everyone's expectations as usual.

Tale a look at Sugarsync, THAT should be how it works (albeit faster and less expensive)

I totally agree with most people here. It's quite a ridiculous idea to believe that people only want to sync/backup stuff that's in the onedrive map. You're basically forced to place everything in your onedrive map!
Even though it's now possible to place that map on a second (bigger) drive, you're still forced to place ALL data you want to sync in a single folder. Even if you have a different folder setup with media\pictures, media\movies (which you might not want to sync), data\documents etc etc -

As others have said, I hope MS will reconsider this. I have a complex directory structure that spans multiple physical drives. If OneDrive can't at least sync selected folders on at least one physical drive, OneDrive, is of no use. Only the most basic users keep files under {USER}

You can do this by using the mklink command in windows, to make onedrive think that your d:\photos folder is under the one drive folder. search mklink and onedrive for details.

Wait, how can any cloud storage solution *not* have "plans for this at this time"?
Now, what? Some things I need to backup I cannot restructure under /OneDrive, so am I to seek out another cloud storage solution entirely, or have to write some script supplement to OneDrive to mirror a folder on my machine to yet another place on my machine (/OneDrive) in order to get OneDrive to care? Or should I find a third-party API plugin to OneDrive which, ridiculously, is required to add this standard functionality?
So long as OneDrive can only sync files and folders within its own directory, it is limping around with a lame leg.

i really think MS should reconsider this. it really doesn't make sense to have to restructure your current folder tree to start using it with Onedrive. I for one am enjoying my Win10 but this just seems like a basic functionality that can be implemented easily and would add a world of difference. in fact this would want to make me use onedrive a lot more

I hope this is reconsidered... I want to use OneDrive for my music with my SurfacePro 4, Desktop, and Lumia 950.... but there's no way I'm storing all my music on my primary drive.

Wow. I am glad I did not buy Office 365 today. Was trying the one drive today and found this sync problem. It would waste all the money if I did. I can't imagine that I have to move all the files to that specific /users/ folder to make the sync work. I'll will ruin all my current file structure. I will not use one drive.

As was suggested in this thread before... Users with tiny SSD drive really cannot afford to have all their data they wish to sync on C drive in one specific folder. Creating symlink is really not a user-friendly way.

I mean, what would be really useful RyanZacher is an explanation for why this is being declined. You understand our request... yet you have no plans to implement it. What do you mean exactly by "understand the request"? Interestingly, by out-rightly refusing to look into this, it seems as though you don't understand the needs of your paying customers.
All we need a valid reason... otherwise we might as well go to any number of alternative cloud storage providers that already do meet this need.
