I suggest you ...

Shorten link by default

When I generate a link to share a file, I'd like this link to be automatically shortened.

OneDrive's URL format is ugly. When I paste it in some places, they are not fully parsed and converted to links (just a portion of the URL is converted). Or I want to tweet it.

I think every time I use the option to generate a link, I want to copy it and paste somewhere else.
In this case, the generated link could be shortened by default.

Please, could you put it again the feature of creating short links in the OneDrive ¿?¿?¿?
        Thanks in advance!

I understand why Microsoft removed short links from One Drive as a security measure, but when you want to share a read-only link with the world, that security concern is not applicable. We need the option to generate a short link in those situations where it is appropriate.

Wow - you used to provide shortlinks via Bitly and took it away
The Bitly short link was shorter than what you currently provide
The Bitly element provided stats too
Are you really a Group Program Manager
Do you listen to your users.... who are also clamouring for stats too
How about giving us a useful update on when we will get useful SHORT short links like bitly and some stats capability aswell - surely given your senior position you should be in a position to provide something on this.
By the way BOOM! IT'S DONE seems a bit self- congratulatory when the current link is actually longer than the (bitly) short link used to be and provides less i.e. no stats facility

Please hurry with the reinstatement of the short URL function for sharing. I share areas of my OneDrive content with other people and they find the long URL names hard to work with.

a: Care to elaborate on how shortening the URL means you'll be hacked?

      • aa commented  ·   ·  Flag as inappropriate

Ok, if you want to be hacked, use the shortened url.
