Shorten link by default
When I generate a link to share a file, I'd like this link to be automatically shortened.
OneDrive's URL format is ugly. When I paste it in some places, they are not fully parsed and converted to links (just a portion of the URL is converted). Or I want to tweet it.
I think every time I use the option to generate a link, I want to copy it and paste somewhere else.
In this case, the generated link could be shortened by default.
Hi, everyone. You should be seeing shorter links by default in the sharing dialog now. Please check it out and let us know what you think.

Update from "Anonymous" of June 05, 2016 13:27...
I went ahead and added the longer links despite the fact it leaves no room to attract YouTube viewers with critical attention-grabbing text in search results. Guess what people? Rather than directly opening a presentation as before with short-linking, now visitors must sign in with an MS account or receive a text for onetime login. My God! I'm dealing with lab-coated morons here! Do I get operant conditioning water bottle and Mixed Berry 'N Nut Treat in my cage at the end of all this? -

Yes! I just found out that my links from YouTube vids re: very important crime forensic presentations (ppt files on OneDrive) NO LONGER WORK! The active short links had fit the minimum character space visible under the video thumbnails in search results. What the heck are you MS online programmers doing?!

Microsoft always seems to take one step forward and five backward. At this rate, we'll be in prehistoric times very soon. The "Shorten URL" feature was an essential component when sharing materials in OneDrive. Now, it's gone. Microsoft says it's studying the situation. I've always seen that as code for "Kiss it goodbye." This isn't a nicety, it's a must. We need it back and now.

The "SHORT LINK" was very practical. Is it feasible to reactivate it?

Please reinstate them. People are not able to open the link from e-mails. They have to copy and paste the long URL.

Please don't forget to integrate the option to:
Short link with possibility of edition
Short link without possibility of edition
Directly from W10 (it's annoying to have to go to the web to have more sharing options)If you could restore the previous short links users create it could be great, I'm a bit disappointing to see that many of my short links are disable and receive message from my contact asking me to send them another SHORT link...

Pretty "short-sighted" to remove this feature before the new one was ready to roll out. Come on, you folks are sharp software developers.

I'm also the one who mad about this. But not after I found the article above.
Using a third-party URL-shortening service is really vulnerable. It can lead a hacker to all of your shared files on OneDrive. If we really want to use shortened URLs. We should encourage OneDrive team to implement URL-shortening themselves with better security.

How about making the URLs human readable also (in addition to allowing for shortened links? Such as http://user_account.onedrive.com/folder/subfolder/file_name?

Short links was such a good way to share files. Why would they remove it? I used it to share files on LinkedIn too. Now the old shortened link is also not functional.
When people start to base everything on results from "data analysis" and forget to use logical reasoning...
Please bring the shorten link feature back!

It is especially awful that shortened links I shared with people in the past are no longer functional. This makes me really lose confidence with OneDrive that had been so reliable in the past.

Lack of short links and lack of reasonable APIs makes people go to DropBox and Google Drive.
