Shorten link by default
When I generate a link to share a file, I'd like this link to be automatically shortened.
OneDrive's URL format is ugly. When I paste it in some places, they are not fully parsed and converted to links (just a portion of the URL is converted). Or I want to tweet it.
I think every time I use the option to generate a link, I want to copy it and paste somewhere else.
In this case, the generated link could be shortened by default.
Hi, everyone. You should be seeing shorter links by default in the sharing dialog now. Please check it out and let us know what you think.

If we login to onedrive from your desktop website, we have an option to "SHORTEN THE URL" when we're sharing a file. The same functionality is provided automatically when I'm using the onedrive app on my windows phone.
But today I was trying to get a link for my already uploaded file on the outlook app on my iPad. It was a bit disappointing as the link was too long, and is a bit difficult to send to someone when the other person has to enter the url manually.
So, kindly do the needful so that the link is automatically shortened. It'll be of great help.
Thanks in advance :) -

Bring the shorten link option back please - makes no sense to be passing round visually unintuitive excessively long URLs. And while you're at it, you could change the default sharing option back to "view only" instead of edit.

I thought I was going barmy when I couldn't find the 'shorten link' option yesterday. The short links were really cool and businesslike. Some recipients of the long-form links have problems if their mail client doesn't wrap the full url properly.
For MS to remove this feature is beyond comprehension if they really want Onedrive to become our favourite cloud service. Nuts!

STOP MESSING AROUND WITH THE "SHORTEN LINK" OPTION AND PUT IT BACK!!!!!!

Removing the short URL was a major mistake. If you want to "simplify" simply allow us to toggle the short URL by default. DON'T REMOVE IT ALTOGETHER!

The shorten link option was very valuable for sending email links to folders/documents. Please reconsider and restore this functionality.

Oh but MS marketing since last year is all about how they "listen" to customer feed back and encourage it.
Get a clue MS as you already know that your OneDrive for Business community has been crying for the shorten link feature for a long time. Putting aside common sense in terms of the value that the shorten link gave, why would you even consider removing considering the outcry from the business community.

Not even a single response from anyone at MS in this thread. Hey MS can you hear us now!!??

This was not a feature that took up a lot of UI real estate or was intrusive in any real way. So, unless it was cost prohibitive to maintain (which seems unlikely), it's baffling as to why MS killed it. Please bring it back.

Can MS provide some analytic information to justify their logic in removing this feature? The "Shorten Link" feature was essential for users that have dedicated their workloads on the MS platform. If you want a loyal customer base it may be a good idea to inform users of change and at least make some kind of justification. MS spends a great deal of capital and resources to attract new users and then to downgrade useful features that keep these loyal users on the MS platform doesn't make much sense.

It's funny how MS completely messed up most of their software upgrades that they kinda looked like downgrading instead. It's not just onedrive but an awful lot of their so called productivity software.

It is essential. The onedrive links are too long by far without shortening

Yes, I can't agree more with you. How could Microsoft "upgrade" their system as worse for every version? Please bring back this feature!

Please bring back the shorten link!
It makes my email to clients look much less messy than having a full link in place!
Sure I can go bit.ly but that's another extra step I have to take - not exactly an update of 'convenience'. Also, the new interface is worst than the old one - less clear and just doesn't have a 'flow'.
Terrible update to OneDrive!

U take out the Mickey of Us!
Scan in OneNote 2016: away
SmartFiles in onedrive: awayAnd now: shorten link in onedrive: away.
Is that professional solutions?
Can We trust in a company that changes its policy without warning its customers?
I now consider more reliable than your proposed solutions.

Could you please give shorten URL feature back? It was very useful.
