Shorten link by default
When I generate a link to share a file, I'd like this link to be automatically shortened.
OneDrive's URL format is ugly. When I paste it in some places, they are not fully parsed and converted to links (just a portion of the URL is converted). Or I want to tweet it.
I think every time I use the option to generate a link, I want to copy it and paste somewhere else.
In this case, the generated link could be shortened by default.
Hi, everyone. You should be seeing shorter links by default in the sharing dialog now. Please check it out and let us know what you think.

An option I have found useful is to take the long link url and turn a short phrase or sentence in the email or document into a hyperlink.

Will probably stop using OneDrive for file sharing if shorten link is not brought back. Standard link is too long for emails and when it wraps it causes confusion for the recipient.

The OneDrive sharing links as of today cant be reduced in size... There was always an option to reduce the size of the link.
I need to be able to add these links in reduced size to documents so they can be shared with out entering 109 characters from a printed page??

This is wrong to remove this option. I have a situation now where there are a 109 characters that have to be manually typed in to access a file. The shortened link is perfect for letters and printed documents.

I absolutely agree. This was done in the name of "simplifying" the user experience, but actually it complicates the user experience considerably. In my case, having no "shorten link" option makes OneDrive unusable. Is MS trying to drive us into the arms of DropBox?

I need the “shorten link” option back. I use the “shorten link” feature so that I can put the link into my transmittal letter (I work with formal correspondence so simply including a link in an email is not an option) when sharing documents with clients or other offices. I then copy the link and insert it into my letter so that the recipient can access the documents.
The lack of a “shorten link” feature means the recipient now has essentially a two line link that has to be typed for them to access the OneDrive. That is very inconvenient for both myself and the recipient. The longer link is also prone to more typographical errors – which serves no purpose other than to increase frustration in all parties.
Even including the longer link via a “copy and paste” into an email does not always work because the link is often too long for some email servers. It is broken into two parts over two lines and only the first line is an active link. Needless to say, that active link does not work.
There is no obvious reason why the “shorten link” option was removed. PLEASE BRING IT BACK ! ! !

when share a screenshot, please create a shorten link right away, without need to go to website to create it.
