How can we improve the OneDrive app on Android?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

  1. Folder Sync: What's the point of the "User Voice" website if the devs are just going to ignore our suggestions?

    Hello there,

So over a year ago I suggested a new feature for the OneDrive app.

    Here is the link: https://onedrive.uservoice.com/forums/913516-onedrive-on-android/suggestions/20587369-folder-sync

The idea/suggestion got an overwhelming amount of votes: over 7,300 in a year, which means that quite a lot of users agreed with it and wanted the feature to be included in the OneDrive app.

After just a month, one of the admins responded "We understand the request and will think about it."

We were so excited! But then, after 10 months of waiting for such basic yet important feature to be implemented, we got the this response:

    "Allow…

  4. Show full file/folder name

I know lots of apps use the ellipsis/three dots (...) when the text reaches a character limit, but I think it's a little annoying when you have to go to the properties of the file/folder just to see it's full name. Just make a new type of view (detailed view?) or make it as an option in settings.

  5. Separate folders when automatically uploading from multiple sources on mobile

Within the Android app, OneDrive suggests you backup photos from multiple apps/folders/sources on your phone. This is a good feature to keep everything synced with the cloud, however it is very disorganized to throw all of these files in the base Camera Roll folder. Each source (every app/folder) should have it's own folder within Camera Roll. They all have different naming conventions, so it's difficult to dissect which photo came from which app.

  6. Show only photos from Photos folder

On wepage we have option so see pictures/photos from only the Photos folder but in Android version of OneDrive, we don't have this option when we go to the "Photos" from the mainmenu, it shows all pictures, what we dont want.

So please add that same function from webpage to app.

  7. Sorting default

It would be nice if the android app would use the same sorting default as the one set in our OneDrive on the web. As of right now, we have to sort every folder manually since the app's default is by icons.

Would also be nice to set a default sorting for the app with just one tap that would sort it all from the root to the last subdirectory.

  8. Store OneDrive offline files on SD card on Samsung devices

    -adjusted the title-

Ryan, there is a separate topic where you said this was working, it's NOT for any Samsung users and probably others!

You seem to be ignoring that thread, titled,'Allow OneDrive app on Android to be moved to SD card including storing offline files'.

Could you please comment here, or at least back in the other topic, so all of us still actively using it get some feedback as to your progress on solving the problem on the most widely used mobile platform in the world (yes there are more Samsungs than iPhones)?

    I am attaching the threads…

We shipped support for installing the OneDrive app on an SD card, but any files taken offline still go to internal storage. We do have plan to enable offline files to be stored on SD card. I’ll update status as we get further along.

  9. Add options of wifi-only and pause (all) for uploading

Sometimes, one needs to upload big but not urgent files so it's just not worth it to use too much cellular data, so then the wifi-only option would be great. And in the same circumstance of not urgent files uploading, pausing the upload temperarily for some urgent need of quick network usage is also convenient.

  13. Enable open all file types

Currently OneDrive for Android has an artifical limit on what files you can open. It would be very useful if that block was removed so that any file can be opened as long as there is an app installed that supports that file extension.

For example, currently you cannot open *.kbdx files even though you have keepassdroid (http://www.keepassdroid.com/) installed that handles that file extension. keepassdroid is open source so you can check its manifest (https://github.com/bpellin/keepassdroid/blob/master/AndroidManifest.xml) to see that it properly registers to handle *.kbdx files and you can verify that it works by opening such a…

  14. Search within folders

Allow to search within folders instead of just all of your OneDrive when you use the app search bar.

  16. Select all files option

It would be great if we have the option to select all and select none option like google drive.

Also the android version does not have the option to ask for replace or keep all option if there is already a file with the same name like in windows web version.

  17. Allow opening files with associated apps

Currently if you try to view or open a text or html file in the Android app, you get an error, e.g. with the html Viewer:

    Webpage not available

The webpage at file:///data/data/com.microsoft.skydrive/no_backup/stream_cache/useraccount/146089/default.htm could not be loaded because:

    net::ERR_FILE_NOT_FOUND

Looks like a p0 scenario to me and I am surprised it doesn't work.

  18. OneDrive App for Amazon FireTV

I am requesting an app built for use with the Amazon FireTV. It would be so cool to be able to watch your movies and pictures on the big screen with the family. We have a FireTV on all our TVs and hence, we can't look at our latest vacation memories.

  20. Create a "OneDrive Photos" app

I would like you could create a dedicated OneDrive Photos app, like Google Photos is separated from Google Drive (offering a photos-focused app).

In Windows Mobile is not problem: the gallery is, at the same time, the "gallery" you have in OneDrive. You don't need to open the OneDrive app, and your Photos sync with your local gallery app.

Why we can't have something similar to the Google Photos or Windows Mobile experience?

Thank you and sorry for my grammar mistakes, I Hope you understand me.
