Improve the PDF annotation experience on iOS
-updated title -
The annotation / editing toolbar used to be blue, movable, and convenient. Now it looks like it came straight out of Windows 95 and has very limited functionality; e.g. you can no longer create two parallel pens and switch between them. Especially on the iPad Pro this is a huge loss and I don't see how this is a change for the better. Please bring the modern toolbar back!
We hear the feedback and working hard to address and improve our PDF annotation editing experience.
We’ve made several updates to the PDF experience the last 3 months. Including:
-Saving pen style preferences
-Apple Pencil usability updates
-Toolbar UI update
-Free text annotations
-Saving the position in a PDF
The team is continuing to work on improvements to our PDF annotation experience and are working on a UI refresh we plan to roll out in the coming months. I’m resolving this one for now, but if there are other specific requests in this area please open new suggestions.
Could we just scrap these new updates altogether and re-download the previous versions? Surely those versions are saved and can be released without having to release update after update until it is back to normal?
I have commented (and voted) about the same issue at the 'Bring back text editing' and so have many others. My comment as follows:
One drive app update for IOS has removed many of the previously available editing tools, eg. the ability to place text boxes on pdf's, among others. These editing tools are critical to our daily business operations and has severely impacted our ability to function. We require the previous editing tools to be reinstated immediately. Approximately 20 of our technicians cannot carry out their works and will potentially need to be stood down until we can address a solution. Please provide an immediate response so that we can notify our clients when this will be resolved.
Do not like the new PDF annotation tool bar and support. It is 2 steps backwards from what you had (that was good!). I can longer stay with iOS OneDrive. I need annotation capability. Put it back !!
Thanks Rany that app works perfect.
Would highly recommend PDF Viewer, it’s essentially the same as previous versions of onedrive (and you can access onedrive files from it) :).
Update need to bring back the blue toolbar and search function, it was better before, why ruin something that worked perfectly.
Wow they totally screwed this up. We use this at work and now it’s impossible to use. Can’t scroll while in pen mode, and highlight doesn’t even work! WTF ms get it together! Quick

I have an Executive who is facing these exact issues everyday and he is an avid user of OneDrive, OneNote on his iPad Pro.
The eraser removes everything he may have marked up by simply touch a small part of it even. This makes it hard to do any work.
Agreed that the old editing toolbar that was blue is the better option, the options have simply in my mind downgraded with the new updates.
Update (November 7th, 17:30pm)
Microsoft has updated the toolbar again.
It is somewhat better than before:
- drawing is now smoother and not pixelated
- Toolbar looks more austhetic
But still, there are extremely annoying problems:
- Pen thickness can not be reduced below 1-point. Before we could 0.5-points. 1-point is too thick when zooming !!
- Writing with the apple pencil is laggy - the ink lags behind the pencil
- Eraser erases whole words, it's too crude!!
- The pen styles menu is at the bottom of the screen, this is so annoying and make you move from top of the screen (where the toolbar is) to the bottom of the screen (where the pen style bar is) all the time.
Microsoft, you took an excellent tool and destroyed it. Thank you very much for hurting my business.
Unbelievable!! two weeks after this horrible “update” has arrived, and Microsoft has done nothing to address or fix it. This completely ruined my workflow.
Everyone who needs to switch, “pdf viewer” for apple is a good alternative.
Wes, the updated affected Android app too.
They posted a new update but nothing addresing app fix: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/Microsoft-OneDrive-Blog/OneDrive-Message-Center-Updates-October-16th-to-October-31st/bc-p/283259#M1044
The app was simply brilliant prior to these updates. If everything could be reverted, that would be awesome!
(It kinda feels as if the update was made to sabotage use of the app on the new iPads, released shortly after the update?).
Also make reviews trought app store and leave 1 starts explaning that is about the blue toolbar gone and search sucks now.
Wrote on support via onedrive website
If we message trough their website I think will notice this.
I have messaged them on twittee and facebook.
Also the search feature is useless, the older search feature gave a little popup with the sentence you could read the sentence, now just directly serch it. This update is useless, you are goign to lose customers and a lot of student at my university that we bought onedrive extra space storage to store all our class material, we are going to another app fix this ASAP crucial time of semester.
Anyone knows how to get directly to development team? On Android I simply installed older version in iPad is not that easy.
Change back before I quit using this program
