Improve the PDF annotation experience on iOS
-updated title -
The annotation / editing toolbar used to be blue, movable, and convenient. Now it looks like it came straight out of Windows 95 and has very limited functionality; e.g. you can no longer create two parallel pens and switch between them. Especially on the iPad Pro this is a huge loss and I don't see how this is a change for the better. Please bring the modern toolbar back!
We hear the feedback and working hard to address and improve our PDF annotation editing experience.
We’ve made several updates to the PDF experience the last 3 months. Including:
-Saving pen style preferences
-Apple Pencil usability updates
-Toolbar UI update
-Free text annotations
-Saving the position in a PDF
The team is continuing to work on improvements to our PDF annotation experience and are working on a UI refresh we plan to roll out in the coming months. I’m resolving this one for now, but if there are other specific requests in this area please open new suggestions.
The new annotation toolbar is virtually unusable.
- Smaller icons.
- Not intuitive.
- Highlighter no longer works correctly on raster based PDFs. In fact it is virtually useless for anything except font based text.
- Can no longer attach photos
- No clouding
- No arrows
Why was this functionality removed?
I've just spent the last 2 months developing videos and training material for use by our site teams to mark up drawings.
And it's now all been superseded by a much more inferior product.
I agree with all of issues described in this post, new markup tool it is just horrible
I’ve been desperately trying to roll back our team to older OneDrive for Business on IOS. Our team will have to change products tomorrow. Why on earth was the annotation tool bar modified? Agree with all the comments here. It must be reverted.

Why on earth was this changed? Did anyone actually check it? The new annotation tool is awful, has less options than previously, and whereas writing used to look beautiful and smooth, now it looks like a computer from 1979 has attempted to digitise it.
Please revert as soon as possible, I literally cannot do any of the work I used to do with OneDrive.
I was relly really really happy with the old PDF annotation toolbar and OneDrive in general.
I could take notes, upload them to OneDrive and could edit them afterwards.
Due to major changes in the latest update, I had to switch to an other PDF editor.
OneDrive can't read the file format from the new editing program, therefore i can't view edited files on my PC. I could save them as PDF's but that would mean I couldn't edit the afterwards.
- squiggly handnotes
- limited thicknesses for pen & highlighter
- just automatic highlighting possible
- limited colors
- no bright highliting colors
- no punctual erasing
- no lines, arrows, ...
- inserted pictures can't be cut
Please give us the old toolbar back. Please, please, please.

Agree! OneDrive used to be my favourite app in taking notes during lessons due to the multiple functions available in the previous toolbar. The current toolbar has so many limitations now. I cannot create a text box and type in it (helps a lot when I’m doing revision). Note sucks because I have to open it in order to edit and look at what I had typed. I can no longer choose my ideal font size and type when typing notes. Lines are squiggly when I write (it was smooth previously). This new annotation toolbar really sucks. I wonder whose stupid idea is this.
Please, for the love of God, fix the annotation function! Everyone's comments are on point. Y'all killin me with this latest update.
I don't understand how anyone felt this was an improvement. The annotation toolbar now has less functionality, and I can't pinch to zoom in when I want to make smaller freehand notes. I can't even do a text box as a workaround for legibility anymore. This new tool is beyond terrible.
Since I annotate many documents using apple pen, my writing also looks childish now because each stroke is now wiggly instead of smooth.
Yes! I don’t understand how this was meant to be an improvement. I was an avid user of the annotation tool on OneDrive and now I’m looking to other apps for what OneDrive used to provide. Such an inconvenience because all of my files are stored on OneDrive. At this point Preview on my Mac has a better annotation system than OneDrive. Do better Microsoft.
This as a massive impact for our company all the higher up (President, VP etc) only use ipad to annotate documents and with the new version if they need to delete something it deletes everything at the same time. Please fix this
