Can I ask why there are no plans to implement this in SP2016 on-prem? Its still under full support, only three years old - why can MS not add support for the new OneDrive NGSC in an update or Feature Pack for SP2016 on-prem?

It's aggravating that this is not working with the new client. Having the ability to sync with On-Premise SharePoint should be in the client.
We have to build a special installer for new users to get the old Groove Client. For those needing this you can download the Office Deployment Tool and make your own ADDODB to get the client. Details here.
Once this is done users will have both the NextGen client and the older Groove Client.
In the Groove Client right click on the icon and select Sync a new Library. In the form paste your URL
Hopefully this feature gets added soon.

We also need support of on-prem selective sync. Especially because WebDAV mapping that can be used in File Explorer fails.

This should be a standard part, I know MS Mantra is cloud first, but it has been 2 years, This is holding us back from rolling out the new client to end users,

Any update on this suggestion, which was first logged two years ago?

The intelligent synchronization available in the next generation client is great, but we need this capability to work with a SharePoint 2013 farm. Our customers work in very large libraries and need to synchronize portions on their devices as they visit job sites. They need changes to be able to sync back up to the central library. The capability would also greatly improve the user experience for remote office personnel who need to work in the libraries

Not everyone plans to move to SharePoint Online. OneDrive with selective sync is a must for on-prem SharePoint. I agree with this. I hope that the product group will seriously think about allowing this synchronization with the new client OneDrive.

OneDrive Client support for SharePoint On-Premises is really needed. OneDrive have selective sync and MacOS support. This is what our user request and only blocker to implement SharePoint in our company.
And no we don't plan to go online or hybrid. -

We don't plan to go to SharePoint Online anytime soon. We do, however, use SharePoint on prem and have always had users sync content. Now that we've replaced Groove with the new OneDrive sync client we have removed users' ability to do this. We shouldn't be in the habit of removing services until we have valid alternatives in place.

We have SharePoint 2013 on-prem (no SPO) and can sync with groove. However, we're removing groove in favor of OneDrive NGSC and are now breaking people who have been using groove to sync SP on-prem.

We also use SharePoint 2013 On-Prem. Microsoft, please update the groove.exe to NGSC!!!
"The new OneDrive sync client doesn't yet support syncing site libraries or on-premises instances of OneDrive for Business (when your organization doesn't subscribe to an Office 365 business plan)."

SharePoint access from Windows Phone 8.x was seamless, integrated into Office Hub. Windows 10 on phones can't do it! This needs to be fixed.
