windows explorer search
Windows explorer search is unusable and scary
In the year 2016 - after being Windows user since Windows 95, I am still unable to understand how Search actually works on windows. Before you could actually know if it is searching content or names, or both, nowdays, you have no clue whatsoever, and it never finds anything that it is actually there.
It never behaves as expected and I am actually avoiding its use at all costs(that is why I say it is scary)
Because I am a developer I currently use this amazing free tool that behaves so much better, it is very very simple even though the UI is not for everybody and you could seriously improve on that, but anyway, check it out, you might get some ideas:
I do not need any indexing, stop doing that, it never works as expected, let it be slow and actually DO perform search, DO traverse the directory tree.
People on *nix desktops have grep, which is so much more predictable and works "as expected" even for grandmas if it is exposed through a nice interface.
The mac search is so so much better, it is used both by normal humans and developers.
being a "developer" and a "Windows user since '95" surely you would have heard of AQS - start here if not, https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa965711(v=vs.85).aspx
