Enable sync client to allow editable synching of team sites with mandatory metadata columns
As at 23rd Jan 2017 the newly relased One Drive for Business synch client enables synching of Team sites BUT if any libraries have mandatory meta data or require check out, the synched folder/library is read only. This cripples collaboration by teams on documents. This needs to be fixed

With build 20.114, users can now sync libraries with required metadata as read/write instead of read-only.

How soon can this be resolved? As we trying to move to a metadata centric approach, which will ultimately help with the search functions in SharePoint. But also allow our team to sync with SharePoint through OneDrive for business and enable them to access via file explorer the relevant files including when there is no web access.

We need this feature, please fix it!

This really needs fixing, it's not obvious that adding a required description on SharePoint Online would cause you to be unable to create files or folders locally when synchronised.

This needs to be addressed sooner than later. File Explorer is not going away and users prefer to work with large numbers of documents this way. Being unable to sync libraries with mandatory tags is ridiculous and prevents my users from using Tags instead of Nested Folders (to prevent the 255 char limit errors)

2020 here! Is there a fix? This is a HUGE issue.

This renders Document Sets unusable in modern document libraries as you cannot sync the document library or document set and drag and drop files into it - you get the "destination folder access denied" error.
This makes Document Sets a production rolled out feature with a critical bug. Suggestion is to not release Document Sets as it is not 'production ready' or fix the critical bug so it can be used.
Please prioritize this for 2020, it is affecting our SharePoint Online adoption.

2 years on and this still isn't solved? Really?
Why would you cripple the 2 biggest features of SharePoint document libraries to not work together? -

This has been going on far too long and now there are issues syncing with the old groove.exe One Drive for Business, I'm sure orchestrated by Microsoft. If One Drive for Business could do it, I'm sure that Microsoft can figure a way to make it work with the new one Drive Client since that is what they want us to use. This is ridiculous!!!!

In order for end users to adopt & support O365 and SPO/OneDrive in particular, they need to trust that they can upload files to the SPO from their file manager (Windows Explorer/Mac OS Finder). Box supports this, DropBox supports this - why does Microsoft have this fatal flaw? SPO has a view "Items that Needs Attention" that helps assist users in completing required data elements. Hope this is fixed & soon.

Having a SP library with required metadata AND the ability to sync with OD is so fundamental to enabling collaboration WITH robust content management practices it's hard for me to understand how MS missed this. A BIG upvote for this feature.

Needs an urgent fix. Have coworkers syncing doc libraries via OneDrive and checking out a document makes it read only.

This is critical for us as well. Even Open in App is broken, you can't use the Check In\Check Out features in MS Word. It's clear Microsoft intended there to be unified document version control in the Office 365 Suite - the functionality is partially there. But for whatever reason, some of the business units appear to have missed the memo.

This is an absolute must and it is also inconsistent behavior on various sites.

Agree with Philine: "Required check-out is a hugely useful feature, this has to be working within the sync app too." 100% true and right. If there is document management functionality - then it should WORK (inside Office365 at least - it is your product and it has no required integration between interconnected apps)! We pay money for our licenses that are not crippled, or disfunctional for a product that does not perform as intended...

We've been talking about this for 2 years now. FIX IT! How much dissatisfaction do you need. We are only asking that you put it back the way it was. How hard is it to make the new One Drive client do something the old one did. This is ridiculous and needs to be handled by your uncustomer friendly company.
