Enable sync client to allow editable synching of team sites with mandatory metadata columns
As at 23rd Jan 2017 the newly relased One Drive for Business synch client enables synching of Team sites BUT if any libraries have mandatory meta data or require check out, the synched folder/library is read only. This cripples collaboration by teams on documents. This needs to be fixed
With build 20.114, users can now sync libraries with required metadata as read/write instead of read-only.

We recently moved from 2013 SP and this is a big issue for us. Users don't realise the sync is read only, I am having to disable syncing of all libraries and also stop the syncing so people can continue to work. Its not useful if someone does not have an internet connection.

Quand pourront nous indiquer des colonnes obligatoires, sans que la synchronisation ne soit en lecture seule, et sans que les documents restent checked-out ?
This absolutely has to change. IRM/DLP is becoming a mandatory feature for sensitive data and telling customers they have to pick between regulatory/security and OneDrive is ridiculous and massively damages workflow continuity.
Another problem with this is that if you open a file on the browser of a sync drive it also opens has read only.
If you stop the sync it opens ok.
Any progress on this issue?
Same issue here. Users are pulling their hair cause of this. why you collect feedbacks if you dont want to make any changes. you are driving your users away.
This severely limits versioning control on SP sites.
Please make serious and a more timely review on this to allow editing through the sync client again.

What is this? A SharePoint for ants? How can we be expected to teach users to learn SharePoint Online... if they can't even sync required metadata to file explorer?

I don't wanna hear your excuses! The feature has to be used by at least... 1,496 more users than this!

Please fix this! We have hundreds of document libraries which used to sync without issue. Now everything is broken. Removed metadata fields and mandatory columns is *not* an option.
there really needs to be a way to check out files using onedrive sync. Users are WAYYYY more comfortable using file explorer as an interface to access files than the 'clunkier" sharepoint web interfaces. It is also vastly superior when doing any type of file management tasks such as moving documents/folders around or doing any type of "bulk tasks"

Discovered today that should you add required fields to your onedrive for business library - sync wont work any longer for that onedrive. I know the cases of a onedrive holding mandatory data would be rare, but why prevent sync? how could this user work offline
This issue has crept in for us mid-rollout and is going to cause us no-end of problems if the config is not changed. In order to remove the read-only status on any docs opened from sync'ed libraries, the only answer is to ensure site-owners a. deactivate any local check-in/ out setting, and b. to remove any required fields. On up to 700+ libraries
This will severely impact a big user adoption plan, and planned benefits identified as collaboration and flexibility seriously dented.
Massive backward step that is going to cost us a lot of money.
Please pass this to the development stage. 90% of our user base uses their online document libraries in classic Windows Explorer via OneDrive sync since 'working on the web' is too difficult (and they don't want to change). The inability to require check in/out is pushing them away from the SPO platform.
Please implement a solution for this, we have the same issue.
My one drive has worked fine for years but suddenly everything is read only and I cant reset it as it keeps reverting. There should be a fix to this asap
