Reassess the possibility to ignore or exclude selected OneDrive folders and files from the sync process.
It would be great to be able to ignore or exclude selected files and folders within the OneDrive folder from syncing. It has been requested a few times before and solves user problems in a variety of areas: from software developers having problems with temporary build files and node_modules folders, through users who want to ignore sync problems (or issues like waiting days for a file to upload on a slow connection) by ignoring files in sync, to users who want to ignore files and folders created by applications, especially photo applications. There are many use cases where this feature would be a solution.
It might also be the case that a feature would reduce the number of support requests and user dissatisfaction, since users would have a way to fix various issues themselves (there is probably more applicable scenarios than described above) by desyncing a file or folder causing problems.
I know this feature has been requested before, and has received the status 'not right now', therefore I have termed this request 'reassess', to determine if the 'not right now' status is still the state of this feature request. I have collected the IDs of the uservoice requests for which this feature would be a solution (listed at the end of the request), summing the votes on these requests, this feature has a total of 549 votes, which would place at about the 35th position, among other requests which have status of 'working on it' or 'thinking about it'.
Thanks for your consideration!
The IDs of the related uservoice issues are: 6988070,10720758,10932591,10778649,10954851,11301837,11344905,11654178,13452462,15748891,17236724,8026992,15017205,17169314,18429295,7290507,11625105,12915153,13541754,16044514,7927728
This feature has rolled out for files (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/onedrive/use-group-policy#exclude-specific-kinds-of-files-from-being-uploaded) and we are looking to expanding it to folders in the future.
What about excluding folders??? I have > 1,000 screenshots (super memo collection) that I do not want included as a 'photo', as the screenshots are *.jpg. I know onedrive.com and filter them out, which is great, but I also need this on iPhone app.
So far have not found way to exclude folders from Photo view on iPhone.
Thanks for working on this feature.
Looking forward to a full, user-friendly implementation
File exclusion feature is still not working! ODFB GPO templates and sync client already updated but excluded files are still uploaded to the cloud.
This feature is NOT currently working. We've deployed the latest version of the sync client (as of 1/5) and have also made sure to update the ADMX files so we can update our GPO. We can see that the appropriate registry entries are being made by the GPO, but the sync client is completely ignoring the configuration. Please fix this?

Also waiting. 2020 is over. Needed for folders and struck dumb by the length of time it has taken to build this.
Are there any updates on this? It is officially end of year and I need this feature. I need to be able to exclude whole folders.
Jesus christ you guys suck. it took 3 years to get back to this? I hate it here.. It took me 2 hours to figure out how to backup anything other than my desktop, docs, and pics. then it deleted all my **** off both one drive and the computer after an image restore i lost several songs i was making and I just now got the music folder to be linked to one drive and its saying it is synced but have no data available in the one drive or any other devices. I paid money for this extra storage and Im really regretting it. what a waste.
From the announcement "Third, we are working on a new policy to allow you to specify a file name or file extension you’d like to exclude from sync at the device level. This addresses an issue where certain file types didn’t sync for example when desktop folders full of shortcut files were moved to OneDrive. These files will continue to be in the sync root on the device but they will not be uploaded to OneDrive. This functionality will be available end of year."
"End of year" is coming right up.... what's the status?
We're in a GCC tenant and just tried a test of this. It appears that it's not yet available for us. Can you let us know if there is a timeframe when GCC tenants will be able to use the GPO extension?
This feature is rolled out and NOT working
Games as well, I dont want my game files on the cloud

It's unacceptable that this feature is not done yet. I see requests for this feature from 5~6 years ago. I have purchased services from Insync and Google Sync to have this feature... and now 5 years later the come to say it will ignore only FILES, not FOLDERS WTF. How hard is it to implement the whole feature.

Thanks, but why not just an entire folder? I like keeping my Documents folder synced across all of my devices. Why is it so hard to allow a user to simply right click a folder within a synced OneDirve folder an select, "don't sync"?
Thanks for letting us know this capability will be available soon.
We are planning to deploy OneDrive KFM with On-Demand Files across our organisation but lack of this feature is a show-stopper for us.
In particular we having issues with ~$*.* files trying to sync and causing confusion (screenshot attached). Thanks

Unacceptable for developer not to have this functionality !
Please add a .OneDriveIgnore file.

This is long overdue. OneDrive attempts to sync large folders then won't enable them to be deselected since it is out of space. This type of design is ridiculous.
Please take up this request, its such a huge nuisance having tens of gigs of auto-generated intermediary files syncing.
I'm seriously considering ditching the platform and using something more powerful.
any updates on this yet?

It's a SHAME, three years past, but M$ did nothing about this issue.
HOW DARE YOU?
