OneDrive is pathetically slow with uploads. For at least the last two weeks, it's been closer to dial up speeds. It can take hours to upload 500 meg. Historically, I haven't seen uploads faster than very low broadband speeds. I have a decent broadband connection - can stream HD movies and do other things simultaneously. I'm truly sick of it. What's more amazing...I'M A PAYING CUSTOMER. I'm not just using the free version. I would expect slower speeds if I were only using the free version. But to pay money and get this, pitiful.
We are focused on performance of the client across various scenarios: new files, file edits, initial sync. We’ve made numerous improvements over the course of the past year and have additional work planned in this area.
I hope it's been mentioned before. The biggest problem is that the OneDrive client can literally be doing nothing, then you add a new file that needs to be uploaded. Then before that starts, OneDrive spends 15 minutes looking for changes before it even bothers uploading the document. This is so frustrating. Especially, when you're on a Teams call and someone needs to look at a file quickly, you can even get it to them using OneDrive. It's quicker to upload to SharePoint or send an email than it is to share a file via OneDrive. This is ridiculous, especially compared to competitors like Drop Box. I've been complaining about this for years, still no fix! This needs to be prioritized MS.
If they cannot straighten this out it may be worthwhile for us paying customers to file a class action lawsuit. This is absurd. Especially throughout the pandemic when everyone is relying on remote access to things.

I am trying to use a replacer for google photos but I think one drive will NOT be the one. How could an app take ages to show all the pictures I have??? What a poor performance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Make OneDrive as network drive option like box.com. It will greatly increase performance.
I only subscribed to Onedrive in the last couple of weeks. Terrible upload speed (600kbps) - one online calculator reckoned it would take 4.5 MONTHS(!) to move all my data (around 309Gb). Also, I found out that whilst trying to upload, my download speed dropped dramatically (from normally around 24Gbps to 6Gbps). I cut to the chase, cancelled my subscription and asked for a refund
I have to sync (upload) 170 Go on sharepoint with onedrive client and the upload speed is 0.0 ko/s ... it will take time...
Any idea to increase upload speed ?
Absolutely shocking. Any time I place a reasonably number (say > 20) of files on a local folder it can take hours if not days to sync. I've taken to using tools like AllwaySync and GoodSync to monitor the OneDrive folders and push any changes up. Come on Microsoft, this has been an enterprise product since SkyDrive days, Dropbox got the drop on you but you have so many more features, this is at the core of how your stack works, make it work.

i have the same problem.. 06 Jan 2021...
Please is there is any Solutions
Weird. I don't get this problem with my OneDrive. It usually caps out my internet speed and I have 75 Mbps
I should feel lucky with ~8Mbs upload but, with 450GB to upload I'm looking at a week +. It really makes having access to 1-2TBs of cloud storage of little value. If I had known I wouldn't have plunked down for a years subscription. Too bad, I like other features. I guess it's really just a home user offering.
i just moved from dropbox, becouse onedrive have better feature to ms office. but.. please.. it is very slow. only about 20% speed of dropbox. I am still using this two cloud app
So, been working on it improving speed since Aug 2019?! Just moved to slowdrive, oh, I mean onedrive mid 2020 and it if this is improvement I feel for all of you that were using it before now. It is still soooo slow it defeats the purpose. I have started to save documents to my desktop just to keep up with the rate of work I have to accomplish. Soooo wish my company had not moved from box.
Also moved from Dropbox. Also know now that was a mistake. Utterly pathetic speeds which stops me using anything else in the house. I have 200Mb broadband and Onedrive goes at 15kb/sec whilst blocking out my laptop from doing anything else, my girlfriends chromebook from doing anything, and Alexa from playing anything. Basically everything is on hold all evening whilst this pathetic excuse for software uploads an album's worth of MP3 files.
On this page I'm looking at 11 pages of people with the same problem stretching back years. Nothing is being done so Dropbox will have my money next year.

So slow to upload vs dropbox! Considering going back.
Hmmm, moved from Dropbox to Onedrive a couple of months ago. Seems a mistake :( Have a meeting tomorrow and now suddenly at 11 pm at night Onedrive is not syncing. Now I am wasting time ready webpage after webpage to find a solution for something that should just work. Will email myself the files now for the meeting tomorrow. Will then move back to Dropbox, as it just works. Sorry MS but OneDrove falls flat in the real world.
I have several clients wanting to move their files to Dropbox due to the horrible speeds of OneDrive. Shall I stop them? If so please tell me you are aware of the performance issues of the client and when it will be fixed!

Disabling files on demand seems to speed up updates and uploads by a lot.
That's however still not normal to have this slow of an upload when bandwidth is not an issue (200Mbps upload here).
I was also suffering with upload speed, so I decided to delete a large unused for now project (400,000 plus files) from OneDrive, because I suspect that there is little intelligence searching for updated files. The delete has been running for over a day, with little indication that it's progressing.

This is 20th July 2020 and the problem still persists. We have tested this issue on multiple platform from multiple location across the globe using Multiple ISPs and still experience the same problem. OneDrive takes ages to sync files! Uploading is terribly slow!
Do you have a solution planned in the near future or should we move to others who provide this solution faster and cheaper?

Hi everyone, I've been searching for a solution for this for a long time now, and since Microsoft won't do anything, I've come up with a "solution"... More like a workaround, actually...
I posted the whole thing on reddit so here's the link : https://www.reddit.com/r/onedrive/comments/hlmi3t/how_to_force_onedrive_to_download_a_particular/
It is proof that OneDrive can download much faster than it does. And If I can use a third party software with a Windows setting to bypass that, there's no way OneDrive engineers can't implement it.
I hope it helps someone.
