more OneDrive Personal Vault lock options - 20mins is too low
OneDrive Personal Vault is a great OneDrive feature 'though in order to make it more usable, I wish it had more locking options - namely, whenever I unlock it, it'll lock itself automatically in 20mins.
I am of the opinion that 20mins is too few - I wish I could unlock it upon login and have it locked at logout.
This is because if you have a Personal Vault file opened & it then locks 20mins later, you can't save the changes without unlocking the Personal Vault again (with the subsequent risk of data loss).
So please consider either allowing Users to increase (or decrease) the timeout or allowing unlocking and locking based on login-logout (or both!).
Open to other suggestions to make Personal Vault friendlier too.
I agree with Andrea. This should be a time out selectable feature. Please add that to Personal Vault.

I am ready to stop using Personal Vault. I was using Veracrypt to encrypt sensitive folders that I stored on OneDrive. That worked well, though it required syncing the entire folder every time I closed Veracrypt. Personal Vault helped with the volume of data. However, the 20 min timeout causes endless frustration. Veracrypt allows up to two hours before it times out. That I can live with. 20 minutes, I cannot. Until MS fixes this silly timeout, it's bye-bye Personal Vault, and back to Veracrypt.

What a ridiculous idea, fuming at my decision to use the vault. Moved 148GB over to the vault and now suffering due to the 20 minute auto-lock feature. Looked everywhere for a potentially hidden setting to turn this off, not there. This whole idea of providing NO option to the users to edit the lockout timing is appalling, to say the least. Microsoft, please #FixIt
that the interval for lockout can be set by the user (footnote item #3).
But it is unclear to me where you can set this, or if it is even an option.

Being able to set a custom time for a re-lock would be ideal, this way everyone can set it to their own personal liking.
did anyone found out if that can be changed? do you know how?

I'm really frustrated by only having 3 minutes on a mobile device. I nowadays do so much of my work with my iPad and having it lock after 3 minutes is ridiculous, not enough time to get anything done! At least give us the option of choosing 20 minutes.
HOw about telling people upfront that Personal Vault may lock before the multiple uploads are finished. this will at least allow people to adjust how many files are uploaded within a 20min slot.
It also keeps crashing. very annoying to what appears an unstable app.
I wish the timeout to be configurable thru desktop and online. the default 20min lockout is not enough.

I too wish the timeout to be configurable. i'm trying to upload my files and really 20 min is very few timing
I too wish the timeout to be configurable.
I tried to upload large digital files for my business.
20 mins would time out during the upload, and I don't have time to sit and upload the files in batches or at times singular due to the time out limit currently applied.

I agree. 20mins is absolutely INSANE!
Full backups are impossible if you have terabytes to upload!
What user of a system with 6TB of storage does NOT have terabytes to upload. What logic is there to give users TERABYTES but force them to log back in every few 100MB or 1GB before it locks!
That works out to 6,000 logins to fill the storage.
MS are you listening? What gives?
The prompts say logouts in 20 mins of no activity. How is the continual upload of GBs of data NOT activity?
Me thinks a major error was made in the design of the lockout.
Boy, they don't make system programmers like they used to!
That's my advanced age (er, systems experience) talking.
I believe being able to change the lock time is a MUST for pc's that keep all the file download on.
I have 200 gb that it is trying to download over a 10mb connection ... it will take days.
Needs to be added or changed:
Change auto lock time(including not until next restart)
- Onedrive file sync REALLY needs to happen without unlocking vault. If you add a large file on one computer then you will have to wait for it to download once you get to the other computer.
- The add a pin option on the iphone app needs to optional NOT mandatory. I dont want a pin, i should not have to have it.
I agree that the 20 minutes is too limiting.
I'd like to see the ability to have an action complete, such as downloading or moving a batch of files without having to keep signing in. My download to move my 146GB was 28 days on the upload speed I can get here. 20 minutes is unworkable for things like that. Everything else can lock after the 20 minutes - in fact, if I had a choice I'd set the inactivity lower before lock out so long as started activities complete.
If the upload/download action could complete but all other actions be locked out after the 20 minutes that would help.
Ability to adjust how long the personal vault remains active is another way round it; but sounds less secure.
Locking automatically at logout from a device even if a longer time had been chosen would be good too.
This area of functionality definitely needs more work to make it useful.
For the present my secure area is unpopulated.
Enabled personal vault. Then got annoyed at it locking so disabled personal vault. Then deleted all vault files. Files are "stuck and I can't enable or unlock personal vault! I'm stuck out of sync. HELP!!!
