more OneDrive Personal Vault lock options - 20mins is too low
OneDrive Personal Vault is a great OneDrive feature 'though in order to make it more usable, I wish it had more locking options - namely, whenever I unlock it, it'll lock itself automatically in 20mins.
I am of the opinion that 20mins is too few - I wish I could unlock it upon login and have it locked at logout.
This is because if you have a Personal Vault file opened & it then locks 20mins later, you can't save the changes without unlocking the Personal Vault again (with the subsequent risk of data loss).
So please consider either allowing Users to increase (or decrease) the timeout or allowing unlocking and locking based on login-logout (or both!).
Open to other suggestions to make Personal Vault friendlier too.
Couldn't agree more!
20 minutes to restricted--should be able to set longer times and also by login/logout on trusted devices.
Yes, very much agree. The hard-coded 20 minute timeout basically renders the "Personal Vault" concept worthless. It's always locking, meaning you risk data loss with unsaved data files and documents.
This was a short-sighted implementation. They need to give complete control over the locking timeout to the user, so it can be configured according to the users specific needs.
Yes definitely increase timeout/make it settable! Possibly don't timeout as long as there is mouse or keyboard activity.
Totally agree - 20 minutes is way too short - should be configurable.
Almost unusable as it stands
Totally agree. Lost 20 minutes of word document editing because of the automatic lockout - ie continuous activity. Now I have to remember to save every 5minutes or so.

It looks more like a coding issue on MS end, as the link provided by Laurens on 11/10 reads:
"Personal Vault automatically relocks on your PC, device, or online after a short period of inactivity."
Clearly that is not the case as I too have to monitor updates/uploads to ensure the Vault remains opens and not interrupt syncing...

I agree too, more selectable features and the possibility to do not lock when sync is in progress. It is difficult to upload large files.
At least, please, don't auto-lock if a file transfer is in progress
I agree with Andrea. This should be a time out selectable feature. Please add that to Personal Vault.

I am ready to stop using Personal Vault. I was using Veracrypt to encrypt sensitive folders that I stored on OneDrive. That worked well, though it required syncing the entire folder every time I closed Veracrypt. Personal Vault helped with the volume of data. However, the 20 min timeout causes endless frustration. Veracrypt allows up to two hours before it times out. That I can live with. 20 minutes, I cannot. Until MS fixes this silly timeout, it's bye-bye Personal Vault, and back to Veracrypt.

What a ridiculous idea, fuming at my decision to use the vault. Moved 148GB over to the vault and now suffering due to the 20 minute auto-lock feature. Looked everywhere for a potentially hidden setting to turn this off, not there. This whole idea of providing NO option to the users to edit the lockout timing is appalling, to say the least. Microsoft, please #FixIt
that the interval for lockout can be set by the user (footnote item #3).
But it is unclear to me where you can set this, or if it is even an option.

Being able to set a custom time for a re-lock would be ideal, this way everyone can set it to their own personal liking.
did anyone found out if that can be changed? do you know how?

I'm really frustrated by only having 3 minutes on a mobile device. I nowadays do so much of my work with my iPad and having it lock after 3 minutes is ridiculous, not enough time to get anything done! At least give us the option of choosing 20 minutes.
HOw about telling people upfront that Personal Vault may lock before the multiple uploads are finished. this will at least allow people to adjust how many files are uploaded within a 20min slot.
It also keeps crashing. very annoying to what appears an unstable app.
I wish the timeout to be configurable thru desktop and online. the default 20min lockout is not enough.
