Syncing over LAN
This would allow multiple PCs / Devices with the same OneDrive account to sync over the local LAN network. This makes a huge difference when setting a new PC (or restoring one) as you can transfer 100's of gigs over the LAN much faster and without impacting your Internet bandwidth cap.
We don’t have a timeline yet but it’s still on our radar.

oh boy, I thought OneDrive had this feature already, maybe I should have done more research before subscribing to Office 365 now 1TB space on OneDrive and 400GB of data to sync :( how many days it will take on a basic 4mbps broadband connection, anyone have any IDEA?
About to reinstall my PC from scratch .. ouch, why did I leave Dropbox? it is going to take a 2-3 months to resync and not kill my download cap
+1. The lack of this feature is what blocks our adoption of skydrive and google drive. It seems people with corporate Internet have no concept of how precious Internet bandwidth is.

Agreed this needs to be top priority. Most of us are on capped data plans on our home networks. This will cost us a lot of money to keep going to your server for each machine.
I want to change from Dropbox but can't consider it until you implement this upgrade.
+1 comment for attention. This should be higher on the list, as it will also lower the load on MS infrastructure. This should also be a smart sync, similar to what's already available in corporate environments through the "branch cache" feature in Windows Server (sync in lan, cache files in LAN, sync from others even when Internet is not available, checking for version online vs cached, etc). Combined with differential sync that Mike linked and deduplication (syncing files only once, even if they are in different folders) should make a huge difference in both user experience (speed, responsivness) and like I've said in loads on MS servers. Don't think about this as just a new PC setup and such, with Camera Roll on all phones, each time I come home my phone uploads pictures/videos, and my PC than downloads it from OneDrive cloud... why if it can sync to my phone directly? If it was smart it would even recognize that PC is stationary device, and phone would sync quickly to PC, and than PC would finish the upload to OneDrive cloud (online) even if phone goes offline or leaves the network (as most people would wisely turn the Camera Roll sync to WiFi only). Imagine possibilities when linking to home server setup, streaming videos from OneDrive on tablet (and having them stream from local PC/server instead, all through OneDrive) and so on. So many possibilities, but will never be there if this feature stays low in the to-do list...
As the comments highlight it, this feature is a must - and has been available on Dropbox for years...
I am mostly commenting to get more attention on this vote!
Onedrive works really well in our offices where we have reliable internet connection (albeit with a painful initial download as others have mentioned). However, many of the countries we work in do not have this luxury - without syncing files over LAN our country office teams CANNOT work effectively on shared documents. This limitation (and to a lesser extent the lack of differential syncing (https://onedrive.uservoice.com/forums/262982-general/suggestions/6369855-enable-differential-sync-only-sync-parts-of-the)) stops us widely adopting a Onedrive solution. We are otherwise very keen given the great Microsoft integration opportunities Onedrive offers. Would be great to get an update on status for this.
Sad to hear the is not high on your backlog, this is a feature the OneDrive should have come with.
It's a real pain when I set up OneDrive one a new PC, even just 20 GB. It takes as long has 200 GB with AeroFS.
LAN sync is a definitive must and it should be THE top request. It's the last thing that keeps me with Dropbox because Onedrive doesn't have it. As OP said, it makes a HUGE difference in the speed of the sync which is really significant when a computer hasn't been turn on in a while and needs to sync 20 Go of pictures and files from other devices of the same network (laptop or other desktop).
Yes that would be great when setting up a new PC or MAC on the same network aea

For me it is a top request.
I believe that you can make it so when I watch videos/pictures on my phone, they can be steamed via LAN from my PC running OneDrive rather then directly from the Internet.
It would reduce the traffic on your side as well.
