Allow OneDrive for Business folder to be renamed
The main OneDrive for Business folder cannot be renamed, apparently because the path for syncing would break.
This is limiting and becomes very confusing for employees when sharing files with colleagues, as SharePoint creates folders with the same name in the computers. People don't remember which is theirs and which is shared.
Thanks for the suggestion.
Also the biggest problem is anyone that actually organizes files and have a naming convention for files that include things like client name, project name, etc.. will cause the files to be considered too long.
Onedrive adds like30 chars to the filename and also does not use the 400 char limit it's supposed to and any document past 164 chars simply gets treated as "file not found"
Onedrive for Business is very much NOT business friendly.

Display name would be good enough. Company name + Display Name. Its so useless to have 2 one drives showing up with the same name when they have different purposes.
I know I am wasting time posting on this issue...
But how difficult would it be to add Username to the OneDrive Folder rather then company name? Having multiple OneDrive folders with the same Company Name is not helpful.
To others...our current work around is to create a OneDrive Folder on the Users Desktop. Create Shortcuts to each One Drive Location. The shortcuts can be renamed to what ever you want. We name them "OneDrive_Username" then you can pin this OneDrive folder to Quick Access. The user opens the folder and has shortcuts with friendly names to all OneDrive or SHarePoint Locations. Stupid and a PITA that this needs to be done but it solves a lot of the confusion that comes with the inherent named OneDrive locations.
I first created an issue for this 4 years ago:
It's still an issue. The same as quite a number of comments here the main issue for me are the spaces in the path.

Are you still thinking about it? It's a very convenient feature. Please look into implementing further.

Another issue is the use of spaces in the name. It is annoying everywhere you use this drive to have to add extra characters to the path to protect against that space.

I agree, this is very confusing especially when you introduce all the other folders

One Drive Corporate Personal

Ability to rename would allow users to there naming conventions. Many times it would reduce the length of folder names.

Vi prego di prendere in considerazione la possibilità di poter rinominare le cartelle one drive.
I'd like to be able to rename it something even longer and cryptic. OneDrive - Default Directory is WAY too short and to the point. I think it should be at least 255 chars long.
Still "thinking about it"?? What a pity
For now a work around is to use the mklink \J command to make a junction. You can then reference the junction in your file paths.
sample command to do this >mklink /J name you want "current one drive name"
credit for this solution is due to a superuser not me
I can't tell you how tired I am of typing out a huge file path every time I want to open something it emacs. Pretty wild this can't be changed. The only work around is a PIA and may have unintended consequences for the system. Just noticed it is 5.5 years later and the functionality still isn't there. I guess the reason it can't be renamed is it might cause confusion about what was work and personal, but come on, just make the icon bigger or something.
You have been asked for many years now. what does it take for such an important change to be made.
Stop 'Thinking about it Microsoft'.
GET ON AND DO IT.
Have to strongly agree with everyone else here. Everyday I need to explain to users that "OneDrive - The Company Name" is their personal Cloud Storage space within their tenancy, but "The Company Name - Folder Name" is the shared cloud storage space that others (may) have access to. It would be so much simpler to be able to simply say, "OneDrive-TheUserName" is their space, whereas "OneDrive-SharedFolderName" is the shared space. All could be accomplished if we could simply rename the folders on the PC.
Is there any progress with this feature request? Having spaces in path is horrible.
Very disturbing, having space in the path. Doesn't work for many developers.
This is so aggravating. Seriously just give users the power to over the full name of the folder. Stop forcing users because some dumb programmer thought it was maybe a good idea. Dear OneDrive personal users .... DO NOT UPGRADE your OneDrive to business or 365 upper packages. It will break all of your original OneDrive file links and folder locations. MS cant even change this for users (which would take less than a hour to code the change) .
5 years passed, and Microsoft is still "thinkind about it"?.. This is ridiculous. It's so ridiculous it's even funny...
