Allow OneDrive for Business folder to be renamed
The main OneDrive for Business folder cannot be renamed, apparently because the path for syncing would break.
This is limiting and becomes very confusing for employees when sharing files with colleagues, as SharePoint creates folders with the same name in the computers. People don't remember which is theirs and which is shared.
Thanks for the suggestion.

It's nonsensical that we can't change the name of the OneDrive folder! If I only have one OneDrive account synced, why shouldn't I be able to just have a "OneDrive" folder?
Microsoft, PLEASE fix this. It's not only annoying to people like me, but it's actually causing many problems for people whose digital infrastructure relies on a certain naming scheme for their OneDrive folder.

I agree with this.
I would love to be able to get rid of the OneDrive - CompanyName convention. You should be able to just sync to a specified folder without all the other folders names getting in there, that can be done in the background. It causes several of my scripts problems as I try to automate things
If we were not already locked into Onedrive for Business, I would recommend our business to look for some other cloud storage system. Not being able to rename the onedrive folder is a huge problem for us. Why is it so difficult to make this change?

I also don't see a way to do this on the Mac version. It's very difficult to tell some syncing folders apart without opening them first. The names are not editable and also non-editable path folders put the target folder inside of the company name.
For example I have three folders that map in this way, which makes two folders that both have the same company name:
"OneDrive - [Company 1 name]" is in "OneDrive - [Company 1 name]" folder
"[Project 1 name]" is in "[Company 1 name] > [Project 1 name]" folders
"[Project 2 name]" is in "[Company 2 name] > [Project 2 name]" folders
Cannot believe this still isn't fixed!!
Just let me change what appears when I mouseover the icon on the taskbar. Very confusing and inconvenient when I need OneDrive for multiple business accounts open simultaneously -- i.e. almost all the time. It is really inconvenient to use!

when using more than one Onedrive for business account. you get an error within Office (e.g. Word) that documents cannot be saved and required a logon that leads into a loop. Multiple OneDrive for Business Accounts are allowed to be created within Windows but have issues with different logons

Renaming possibility for Onedrive root in Windows Explorer
If you create OneDrive for Business account in Windows, the name of the root ist not changable, also it does not show the name of the account but only company name. A second account is renamed like companyname(1) and cannot be changed

Ability to rename the OneDrive syn folder name to any name
Currently, when syncing the items on OneDrive for Business with PC devices, the folder name will be automatically specified with the name starting with “OneDrive-“by default.
We don’t want to use this default name since it contains the half width space in "OneDrive - ", therefore, please provide ability to change the default folder name to any name.

I have the same issue. My OneDrive path is taking too many characters out of my path and I am having trouble with folders and sub-folders especially when saving or attaching files from Outlook on my laptop, which seems to have an even shorter limit than Windows.
agree. it is so annoying.
check how google drive does it.

The ability to change the name of the One Drive For Business *without* changing the company name is critical to our organization. The Business name typically has spaces (and in our case special characters). Please provide a setting in O365 for the default Onedrive name.

Seriously - I have a faculty account at my long-windedly-named university and it takes up 40 characters out of the path limit, requires me to deal with spaces in my filepaths, and honestly, just personally bothers me. Please fix it!

The default folder for OneDrive (by design) creates a problem that it conflicts with the maximum 255 character path length issue.
For a persons business OneDrive area
C:\user\FirstnameLastname\OneDrive - LongCompanyName
For a Company Group/Team site
C:|users\FirstnameLastname\LongCompanyName\LongCompanyName - LibraryName
It means that you are massively restricted on how you can use OneDrive to avoid reaching the 255 character path length limit.
I contacted support and i am told this is "by design", it isn't really fit for the purpose, other cloud storage providers dont have this issue and allow you to change it, it is such a simple feature.
Madness! Please let us even set the darn thing up with a short name. Hate that my company name is used by default and cannot change even when creating from scratch! Rename would be nice, but if we could even change from scratch, at least we could copy files, delete the structure, then copy them back. (Silly to have to do that, but it's a start.)

Yes please, we need the SharePoint folder to actually say SharePoint, not the name of the company!

My Company name is extremely long that take up 75 characters. Adding the root path for user folder, I have lost more than 100 characters for the 260 or whatever characters limitation in windows! I cannot sync many files with just more than 160 characters long. What an annoying FEATURE of One Drive Business.
Actually i meant only Company name, because this is show in OneDrive folder in Windows Explorer and not the tenant's real name.
Tenant's name can be changed after company merge/acquisition or due to other reasons. If admin changes companie's name in Admin center this is only reflected for new users. Doing this change with scripts (uninstalling OneDrive, rename folder, install again) is cumbersome, takes time and is error prone. OneDrive should be smarter and adjust to tenant's name.
