Search all my OneDrive files even if they’re not on my PC - Windows 10
It worked in Windows 8.1 well, why did it go away??? I want OneDrive to be a single place to see all my files in any implementation of OneDrive be it an app on my pc or on the web. Also, just because the icon is there representing a file structure on my PC doesn't mean it has to be occupying space, simply retrieve it from the server if I attempt to access. I was able to see my whole onedrive file structure in Windows 8.1 and select what I wanted stored on the PC and what could stay in the cloud. Bring it back!!!
now in 2018 the Windows 10 search does not index files who are only on OneDrive (eg PDF files). Really bad.

I would like to switch to Windows 10, but not until you restore the placeholder function!
I am using OneDrive largely to hold the files and folders that I cannot continue keeping on my local computers. I have older computers with SSD drives, so my storage space is largely claimed by apps and applications. Also, it makes my life very simple to access everything on every device I own. HOWEVER, in its Windows 10 incarnation, the only way I can access all my files is through the web page interface, which makes using Word, PowerPoint, Outlook (sending emails with attachments) pretty much USELESS.
Is there a plan to one day restore the placeholders from Windows 8, 8.1? Would you tell me when that day might arrive?
I would throw all my votes to the placeholders idea, but admin doesn't want it to work that way. So, I'm splitting my votes among the closest options
