Selective Sync on Mac needs to continue even if it cannot sync a particular file (.DS_Store file was culprit).
I installed the new version of OneDrive for Business (MacOS), with selective sync.
Whenever it got to a ".DSStore" file, though, it would get "hung up", and would stop syncing. I contacted MS Tech Support and was directed to an article which appeared to be helpful in that it clearly addressed the issue I was experiencing, and eventually was able to get the Mac to complete the sync by deleting the .DSStore files (which was a bit of a challenge, but I figured it out).
The issue is not just that the Mac won’t sync the “.ds_store” files, but that it gets “stuck” on them and won’t complete the rest of the sync. It seems to me that the “getting stuck” part is something that should be resolved at the software level, rather than at the user level. OneDrive should report the error, of course, but then it should be able to proceed with the rest of the sync, anyway.
Having the same issue. Sounds like something that could easily be fixed by the microsoft developers - Just don't sync them and don't put up an error message that stops the remainder of the sync.
This was what they told me to do: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/forum/msoffice_onedrivefb-mso_mac-mso_o365b/one-drive-for-mac-error-dsstore-an-item-couldnt-be/f32af665-f534-4714-a0b4-44ea62934591?messageId=f3d36e86-1fed-417f-9ccb-d4c94326c9bc
