How can we improve OneDrive on Mac?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

  1. Properly support the macOS file system (special characters, aliases, symbolic links, case sensativity, etc.)

OneDrive is 99% useless on a Mac because the macOS file system is not properly supported:

    1) Files are limited to Windows naming conventions. I't impractical to rename 100's of files to complete a sync

    2) Aliases get copied as unusable files and symbolic links are ignored.

    3) If the drive is formatted as one of Apple's/unix's case-sensitive formats, they're unusable with OneDrive.

These are the deal killers, items like support for tags, etc. would be nice also.

  2. Allow syncing of files larger than 10GB (e.g. Photos Library in OS X)!

Allow syncing of files larger than 10GB (e.g. Photos Library in OS X).

I was disappointed to learn that the reason my OneDrive never leaves "Scanning Files" in OX X Yosemite is that OneDrive does not support files over 10GB.

I'm frustrated, because I paid to upgrade my storage amount so I could use OneDrive to backup my Photos Library in OS X, since I use OneDrive for all of my personal backups/syncing.

This seems like a simple request!!!

  3. Stop forcing OneDrive folders to Favorites in the Finder Sidebar

Every time I reboot, OneDrive forcefully places a shortcut to it's folder in the Finder Sidebar Favorites section.
I'd like to have the choice of disabling this.

  4. auto save

Bring the Auto Save feature from Windows 10 to the macOS client, so we can sync the Desktop and Documents folders:

  5. Fix OneDrive so it works with OSX High Sierra

Since the public release of OSX High Sierra, OneDrive is unable to sync up to an O365 SharePoint document library. Downloads are fine. A clean install to OSX Sierra resolved the issue.

  7. Allow syncing on case-sensitive file systems

Really not understandable that this is a "not right now". This would possibly make me use it.

  8. Sync native Mac folders to OneDrive

Enable Mac system administrators to define native Mac folders that are to be synced automatically. e.g. ~/Documents, ~/Desktop, ~/Pictures, etc.
This functionality is already available in Windows, and should be made available for Mac to be truly cross-platform.

  9. Sync Shared Folders on New Mac app cleint

The new Mac app client states that shared folders will not sync. However, in the UserVoice, Jason Moore says that they will sync. What is the status of this?

  10. File names, special characters

There are way too many restrictions on special characters in file names which prevent upload to OneDrive of files from Apple OS 10.13.

  12. Merge OneDrive and OneDrive for Business Menu Bar Icons on OS X

When you configure both a personal OneDrive account and a OneDrive for Business account on OS X, you end up with two identical icons in the menu bar.

Additionally, two icons just adds clutter to a already crowded area in OS X. Both icons should be merged, and the drop down menu should show details from both accounts.

  13. Fix the accent characters on OneDrive Next Gent Client

    Hello,
Can you please fix an inconvenient issue with accent characters on OneDrive Next Gent Client for Mac. My name contains accents characters - Jiří (Czech Republic, Europe), and my sync folder and information in client "translate" this to: Ji\u0159\u00ed (Jiří). I think the problem is clear, there is an issues with character mapping. Can you please fix it in next version? Thanks a lot.
    Jiri (George)

  14. File name restrictions

The file name restrictions are still in place. There shouldn't be any special character, symbol, space before or after file. It is very disappointing especially when you are uploading hundreds of GBs and with 460 file name errors. That makes you stop the whole process. Please allow any type of file names like dropbox/google drive etc.

    Thank you.

  15. Support direct federated single sign on (SSO) on the Mac client

The Mac client currently is capturing my password, and Office 365 is serving as a proxy to authenticate my to our on-premise ADFS/Shibboleth federated SSO solution. This is not permissible according to the rules of our Information Security Office. This product (and all other Office 365 clients) need to support direct authentication against ADFS (or other SAML authenticators) before we can use it on our campus.

  16. Block Level Synchronisation (Differential Sync)

Split any files into blocks and sync only parts of the file that were updated instead of the whole file. Very popular request for Windows, but should be implemented in the core itself, also available vor macOS and anyone else: https://onedrive.uservoice.com/forums/913522-onedrive-on-windows/suggestions/6369855-enable-differential-sync-only-sync-parts-of-the-f

  17. Manual Sync Now Button for Mac

For the love of all that is good and holy, please add a manual "Sync Now" option for Macs. When I open my laptop to work on a project that I had begun earlier on a different computer, then I click on the OneDrive icon that tells me that it is "up to date" and that my files "last updated 23 hours ago," the app ceases to be useful. A "Sync Now" button would fix that problem in a hurry. As it is, I have to close the program and reopen it in order to get it to sync.

  18. allow MACs to have external-drive OneDrives like Windows PCs and Surface tablets

Why are windows and surface tablets allowed to have externally located OneDrives? Macs should too.

Your competitors allow it as well.

  19. Support certificate based authentication for OneDrive in an enterprise environment.

Support certificate based authentication for OneDrive in an enterprise environment for ADFS authentication similar to all other Office products on Mac.

  20. Please add online-only for mac users

I have 2 subscriptions for Office365 this means i have 2048 GB of online storage but my MacBook Pro has only 256 GB of local storage why not i cant choose which files to keep on the SSD and which Files to keep online only like what i used to do with my windows laptop... selective syncing isn't really helpful because I will have to to open the browser every time i need to access my non-local storage and re-download what i need after then re-upload it again and this is just a pain... i am moving to iCloud next…
