Duplicate files/photos ( duplicates )
Like other suggestions I would like a way to not have duplicate files/photos, to save space.
Can we have some specific way to:
1) run a "duplicate" search that can automatically delete files/photos based on a name, size and date
2) search for duplicates and then list them all in name order, showing name, size and date to then give option to review then delete
3) a file compare search for similar looking files, then the option to delete one(s)
This isn’t in our plans in the near term. Wanted to be accurate in our status. We do understand the request.

Is there still no update on this becoming reality?
Perhaps Microsoft doesn't want to do anything about it because they want people to pay them to buy more storage because literally NO ONE has the time to search and delete
Heartily agree. Duplicates require many hours to control.

I agree. It is so time consuming and frustrating to have to constantly deal with duplicate photos showing up in OneDrive. What do you mean you do not plan to address it? Seriously, it's a big flaw and making me consider DropBox instead.
I hope you do something like this. I have duplicates of so many pics and I can’t figure out why this is happening

This requirement is at least three years old, is someone from Microsoft going to look at it and solve it sometime?
Or will we have to go to the competition?
I have merged files and generated many duplicates. This is a must requirement.
I think this needs rethinking. the worlds servers are filled with duplicate copies of files and especially photos. A routine to detect exact and similar copies of photos would make keeping a useable photo collection far easier.

We now have nine copies of each picture in OneDrive (over 500MB total), and the interface is so slow it would take days of effort to correct. This should be a pri0 bug.
I got a new iPhone and currently have a ticket still open about this issue. My iPhone backup restored all my photos to my new phone. And yes, I could delete them all before turning on auto backup but why should I have to? Then onedrive isn’t a backup anymore but my primary and only storage. The techs first suggestion was to upload all subsequent phots manually - from now to eternity. NOT. This thread mentions a paid duplicate remover app but why should I need to pay $35 and go to the hassle to use when logically this functionality should be built in?
The iPhone app shouldn't be creating duplicates when migrating to a new iPhone to begin with! The app is broken!!!
I think a feature like this would highly fit in Onedrive.

WHY? As someone who takes LOTS of photos on my Android phone and have 2 laptops, a Mac, a PC and a tablet, I access my OneDrive from many different places and I'm not sure if that is why but I have MANY MANY duplicates - it doesn't make sense that such a great program as OneDrive can't recognize a duplicate as other programs do. That would be a HUGE PLUS in my book!
Yes, please add a remove duplicate file feature. It is needed! I can see why you wouldn't do it, as it would free up space so people wouldn't need to purchase more space from Microsoft.
That kind of sucks because I have years and years worth of duplicates that I need to get rid of as I've put all my physical backups to OneDrive and those had multiple copies. Sloppy, I know, but come on, AI assisted algorithm or something? Would be HELLA convenient.
Please add a duplicate picture file removal feature.
As the others have said...please reconsider and add this functionality.
As others suggested, please consider this feature as top of your list. This is kind of must feature when we are dealing thousands of files/photos now a days.
Please add a duplicate picture file removal feature.. Thank you.
OneDrive needs the elimination of duplicates as part of the features to make this better.
With photos being shared from several devices and auto camera feed it does not take long to have many copies of the same shot on the drive.
I would also like to see a privacy feature where the a folder would need a pass code to open. This in the event someone access the drive unexpectedly.
