More transparent download of ZIP files in browser
More intuitive download of ZIP files in browser
Sharing already compressed .ZIP files via OneDrive for Business with external partners is a challenge for them.
Often, they mistake the ZIP file for a folder because it's so easy to access the compressed file. Then they mark the folder inside the ZIP and download it.
By just marking the folder inside the ZIP and then downloading it, OneDrive decompresses the folder and then re-ZIPs it for download. Now you have a system-created ZIP file and for those the maximum file size is limited to 25MB. That is logical from a system perspective but not for the user.
I have added two screenshots. One is showing how it works and the other one shows that by marking the folder inside - which is intuitive - you get an error message when the file is larger than 25MB.
Dear OneDrive Product Team, please make
a) the error message more transparent. When the ZIP is downloaded, it's already too late.
b) the overall download of a ZIP file more in. It's great to have a preview functon inside a ZIP file, but the download process is just not intuitive!
