Add ability to add metadata tags to files
Adds the ability to tag documents with metadata tags and to add another function to search in these metadata tags.
For users it will brings new opportunities how to organize their data. It's a different approach compared to storing files only in a directory structure.
While we don’t have an update here for adding metadata tags to files, we are continuing to explore this as part of the future roadmap. We recently announced the ability to edit existing metadata from within Teams and will continue to invest in metadata scenarios.

The main reason I don't use OneDrive as my main file organizing tool or as a collaboration tool is because it does not have to ability to provide tags at the file level. Please provide this capability. It would make it so much more powerful.
This really needs to be done! I would find it extremely useful!!
we need tagging back

Is it possible to upload photos but only when tagged, so with uploads you will get a notification (photo is not tagged, please tag first) offcourse this should be an option...
I see it as a garantueed album builder...
Also please at folder structure per month ;...
Having the possibility to add tags multiple files at once, would be great.
This would be so incredibly helpful for collorbaring within OneDrive for business. Think Photos or Google Photos where you can search for a specific image in a database of photos.
+1 for this! Is there any news on this?
Seems straight forward. It looks like the document libraries in SharePoint but without the "+" to add more columns.
Seems like a step backwards not to have metadata tagging available for OneDrive for Business files.
Kindly advise how do I add names to "people"? Your software exhibits them beautifully in circles but I cant work out how to add names to each individual. Secondly is there a way of deleting irrelevant or people whose faces I no longer want to see?

Tag people via suggestions
Tag multiple items
Tag all file types with relevant tag standards
All the functionality of Windows Photo Gallery (Batch tag, suggestions etc)

The lack of metadata is causing our users to turn elsewhere. Primarily to another solution named DropBox. C'mon Microsoft team ... bring back AND enhance OD and ODFB's usability of metadata. Our customers will be happy and might even buy a round for us!
Douglas Pearce - any update on this post November 30, 2016?
Not having metadata in ODB is a huge problem for us. We have implemented the use of a file naming convention that relies on the Title column and other metadata to organize and collect files into views and content pages. Not having the ability to display in ODB modern view in Teams and Groups is against all we have been taught by Microsoft over the past several years.
You lead us here, we drank the Kool aid, and now you are taking it away from us. This is NOT acceptable!!! Please, give it back!!!!!
Now that O365 Groups, Team Sites and OneDrive are all sharing files - you need to be able to organize and find them the same way in all 3 locations. Otherwise looking at files in Outlook or OneDrive is not very usable.

Music tagging too.

We need for OneDrive for Business just the same look and feel as we have it in a DocLib on a modern SharePoint Site or in O365 Groups.
Any new updates on this or news about bringing the tags in pipeline?
I want the ability to save files to multiple folders; this, in effect, largely replaces many of my needs for tags or labels on documents. This functionality is available in Google Drive. See here for a description:
The ability to add tags (or labels) to individual or multiple files would be a huge improvement. You should be able to do this from the browser or from within File Explorer. You should then be able to search and sort. My primary goal is to have more flexibility than a traditional folder structure provides.
For example, I may have a client proposal presentation. I want to be able to tag it with a client name, a tag for "proposal", a tag for the type of service provided, and a tag for the consultant. These provide a more flexible way of viewing documents- I could quickly look for all proposals, or for all documents for that client, or all files for a given consultant, etc.
Or may I have scanned in a PDF for a medical claim or a purchase receipt. I want to file those with other claims and receipts, respectively. However, some of those might have tax implications. In those cases I'd like to add a "tax" tag/label so when tax season comes around I can just search for "tax" and it will pull all relevant files from across OneDrive.

I took a SharePoint course from a certified Microsoft trainer in February 2016 and finally understood the value of the metadata and use of custom columns. My company deployed Onedrive in October 2016 and I have been promoting to my staff (500 of them) to stop using folders as much and shift to metadata. We created training to demonstrate the benefits based on what we had learned. Not to hear that Classic View is going a way and we will lose the metatags is very disconcerting. I don't understand the logic behind removing the metatags without something to replace it.
