enable changing the column width in onedrive.com
To make it easier to read filenames, for example
Practically unusable on a iPad with width so narrow and no way to expand. Even if at top level folder with half of the screen to the right unused the second column is limited to about 3 words.
Only way to know what file to open is to select each file one-by-one and touch Properties to see the full file name. Awful...

It works for my colleague who uses a Mac but not on my PC... grrr
The way this question is phrased is not quite right. It is possible to adjust the column widths manually, as Stefan noted. However, in my opinion the real problem is that OneDrive will neither a) set an intelligent default for the Name column based on how much horizontal whitespace is available, nor b) remember the user's choice when manually adjusting the column widths. If either a or b were offered, it would be easier to read our filenames!
Problem is actually solved in the meantime. MS just didn't tell anyone.
Move your mouse to the column header and the column header cell highlights. To widen it, go to the right end of the column header cell and find a thin grey line. Click here and stretch the column as you wish.
However, this is not yet a permanent solution :-/
and make it stay at the width you change it to...everytime i go into one drive or sharepoint i have to make the document name column wider

Yep, this needs to happen on the web and on Android as well. Onedrive is literally unusable because I often have files with slightly similar filename, but located in a different folder, all are versions of books from my collection, and I need to read the filename to properly distinguish between the files. Using search, I cannot distinguish the files.
MS, would you not think that if you want to get people to use Onedrive that the content therein should be easy to read and use?
this idea has been since October 2014? seriously, if you cannot fix that, just trash the whole cloud idea.
Please address this gap asap. It is not user friendly and turns people away form using Onedrive before they understand the benefits. We are persistently having to change the column width so I can see the filename every time I use One Drive. Should not be hard to fix (in one of many ways, e.g. auto size to the size of the largest filename in that folder, or provide an option to save view, or the ability to override and set the column width)...many possible ways to do this that are all better than the status quo.

OMG! Thank you last anonymous poster! I found the tiny grey parallel lines at the very bottom of the divider bar and was able to expand the column! Simply amazing that MS would build it to work this way. Users should be able to expand the column by clicking and dragging anywhere on that divider bar, not just at the bottom. Serious UX fail, again.
If you scroll over to the very end of the column....there is a faint grey line. You can widen it my stretching it to the right. JUST did it. Not sure how to add a picture to show you but let me know and I can put it up.
I can't even mouse over to read the full name or see the filename in the details view..
Touch the column header to Highlight the column you want to widen. For example "A", Then stretch to the right to the width you want.

Same as for Ian Sheldrick below ... cannot see the "Create View" option so cannot fix this. Wow ... still no solution to this one in 18 monts? You have got to be kidding me.
If you are just a user and not a developer, is just not possible to make a column wider so you can read the filename?

Looking at Robert C Peterson's suggestion, I have tried to implement this.
Following the chain up to here is okay: 7 Clicks: Settings Menu > Site Settings > Site Libraries and Lists > Customize "Documents"
However, at that point I can not proceed further as 'Create View' does not appear as an option. I do however get a notice: "The number of items in this list exceeds the list view threshold, which is 5000 items. Tasks that cause excessive server load (such as those involving all list items) are currently prohibited."
Is there a way to locate 'Create View' and complete the suggested procedure?

For example, the 'Name' (meaning File or Folder name) column would be capable of being click/dragged to the right to expose longer File or Folder Names. There is sufficient unused white space at the right of the screen to allow for this, which is otherwise wasted. Check out Google Drive, where this is handled by the user adopting variant screen resolutions - not as good as column resizing, but at least it does expose longer file names easily.

7 Clicks: Settings Menu > Site Settings > Site Libraries and Lists > Customize "Documents" > Create View > Datasheet View > [give the view a name, like "Table_View"] > OK
Now you can see the full file names!

Has this update happened?... I urgently need this!! Thanks!
Revert to classic view in the bottom left corner.
I agree this is pretty bad though..
