We are a Healthcare company and would like the option to turn off file syncing for any computer for OneDrive for Business and allow for opening files on demand. If we had the option then the OneDrive would allow logging into it on a Windows device and make the files available to access but not stored there.
We are responsible for HIPAA violations and want to use our best practices whenever we can to protect PHI and PPI even further by blocking the sync to a local computer.

The option may not be for everyone but think that if it was at least available then those that want it can use it.
We also find that the sync was grabbing everything instead of the selected or most often used files and consumed so much disk than wanted without any choice of what was syncing.
We don't want this to have to be identified by staff at each computer and want more control of our data as administrators of the company.

Some time ago, Word files were shared with me by friends and other contacts, via email. Years later, when using Word and looking more closely at the "Shared with me" tab, I begin to notice that these files still appear in my account. But they don't exist physically anymore. They are not on my computer, which has been swapped over time; cannot be accessed, because there is no more information, in my account or on my computer, that allows you to open these files; cannot be moved and much less deleted. They're just over there. The detail is that I would very much like to delete them from this area of Word and saw that this could be more complicated than I imagined. Some might think, "Well, I believe these files are on your OneDrive." Unfortunately, they're not. And the path to the solution proved farther away. Allow me to be more linear:

 When I noticed that the difficulty in deleting these shared files outdid a non-specialized user's level of knowledge, I contacted support. The first was Office support, which, through the occurrence 1004853213 the carrier concluded, after a few hours of dialogue and remote access, that the problem was in my OneDrive account. The next step was to contact OneDrive support, which did not find an answer that could solve this mystery of deleting shared files from Word and Word, even though I uploaded a series of screen recordings and detailed prints. OneDrive support concluded that the case should be routed to the Office sector, which was the starting point of this entire search for a response. I contacted Office support again, through the occurrence 1005455431 and after several minutes of remote access, it was concluded that although I was not the owner and creator of these files, and I have only received it for a while, the registry remains in Word. Because, according to the conversation I had with the operator, the files are linked to my account, because they have been shared, which are linked to Office, which makes it complex to delete them. Notice that these files certainly exist, but only on the creator/owner's computer (and in your clouds). 

 Conclusion: Word does not yet have a feature that allows you to delete the record of shared files on the desktop or web. Only, from what we believe, if the owner, being the same person who sent, deletes from his cloud and computer. Seeing these old files brings me a strange feeling, I would very much like you to help me in this, creating an alternative to delete these records, without relying on the owners or complex procedures.


 I hope i've been as clear as i can in that description. I've been chasing a solution for days, tirelessly. The understanding of the support sector was of great value not to make me give up and, even demanding several hours of the day, believe that we will be able to solve. This issue may be something very simple and innocent, but I believe that my difficulty and insistence can help future users to have an increasingly better experience.
