  1. Request that someone sends a file to me

I (and my users) often need to request large files from a contact outside my organization, but Office 365 and OneDrive do not provide this functionality in a simple way. Microsoft support tells me to “either create a shared Sharepoint site or ask the other party to upload files to their own OneDrive and share the file”. Both of these “solutions” require the other party to have a Microsoft ID and force me into the awkward position of being a Microsoft evangelist (as I tell them how to get a Microsoft ID, upload the file, and then share it with…

We are rolling out Request Files to OneDrive for Business this month (November 2019). Anyone with the file request link will be able to upload files without having to sign in, no OneDrive account required. Best of all, uploaders will only be able to upload files. They can’t view, edit, or even see who else may have uploaded to the request.

There are multiple use cases where this feature can be extremely valuable – consider “Request for Proposal” (RFP) scenario where you need to collect bids from others, or a marketing professional accumulating quotes from various vendors for a campaign, a teacher collecting assignments , a manager reaching out for feedback from his team members or a financial rep or recruiter gathering documents from their clients- just to name a few.

  2. More secure file sharing for OneDrive Personal

Today a shared folder or document ist just protected by the link to it. If someone captures the email containing the link, then he has access to all the shared files.
To share more confidential files I would like to share with a specific microsoft account. Then the files are at least as secure as the microsoft account of the person i shared the files with.

    Marketing consideration:
Why to pay for office 365 home for 5 family members when I can't share the 1 TB of OneDrive space securely with them?

  3. Automatically shorten urls for publicly shared items from OneDrive for Business and SharePoint Online

Automatically shorten the urls for publicly shared items from SharePoint Online and OneDrive for Business, similar to what is available in OneDrive.

When the feature is complete the urls generated by Get a Link / Create Link should be shortened automatically (possibly using http://1dr.ms) and a similar feature should be introduced in Sharepoint Online document libraries.

  4. Create a copy of shared file to own Onedrive for Business

It should be easy to create a copy of a shared file to own OneDrive for Business.

For example: teacher creates a Word file and shares it to students. At the moment it is difficult for students to copy the Word file to own OneDrive for Business

You can do this today by opening the file and then selecting “Save a copy…” (if it’s an Office document) or “Copy to…” if it’s another type of file.

  5. Allow a Guest Link for a video to play in the browser

When I share a video from OneDrive for Business using a guest link, I want viewers to be able to play the video in the browser.
Currently, they have to download the video before playing it.

Now when you open a video link that works for “anyone”, the video will play for any recipient, on any browser, even if they’re not signed in.

  6. Shared folders/files Usage

Would be nice to check who or how many times shared item was accessed in some sort of reporting service.

  8. OneDrive for Business Sharing Link on Desktop

Enable a dropdown "Share file / folder" option on Desktop for OneDrive for Business (as Dropbox, Google Drive and OneDrive Consumer already has). Currently right-clicking on a file or folder provides a OneDrive for Business option on Desktop but nothing appears in the dropdown.

  9. "Shared By Me" in OneDrive for Business

It would be good if you could easily identify who has shared access to a file or folder.

I would really like to see the a list of files that I have shared on OneDrive for Business. Please add a “Shared’ folder.

We need a “Shared” view in OneDrive for Business similar to how OneDrive personal has.

  10. Upload to a shared folder without loging in

Make it possible to create a share forlder with Bill, send the link to him at bill@gates.com and let Bill just click on the link and download/upload files to that folder without signing. Folders could also be password protected so that Bill needs to write that to enter the folder.

Sharing links that work for “Anyone with the link” are supported in OneDrive for files and folders.

  11. Shared With Me view should show files / folders shared from other organizations

Shared With Me only shows files shared by colleagues within an organization. If files are shared from another organize they don't show up under the "Shared With Me" view. The only way to access files shared from another organization is to know the direct URL.

  12. Option for SharePoint Online doc libs to disable "Add shortcut to OneDrive"

If I disable "Offline Client Availability" on a SharePoint Online doc lib, I still see the option to "Add shortcut to OneDrive", however if I click on it, I get an error message saying that the administrator has disabled this functionality. But, I can still see the shortcut, and access the library in the OneDrive web interface. I would like a way to disable the option completely.

Thank you for all the feedback and discussion!

To disable “Add shortcut to OneDrive” within your organization, please use the following Powershell script:
    Set-SPOTenant -DisableAddShortcutsToOneDrive $True

If you run into issues, please update your Powershell client and try again. Running this script will remove the option for end users to add new shortcuts. Existing shortcuts will not be removed by running this script and will continue to work. This command was never removed, we have no plans to remove this command for the foreseeable future and we’re sorry for any confusion. We are updating the text after running the command to remove the reference to our preview.

In reviewing the feedback, we saw a number of issues with the sync client & Add shortcut. To respond to a few of those issues:
    1. We have other work planned to improve the experience when a user attempts to add a shortcut…
