Prevent shared files from being downloaded
I think it would be great if there was some setting to turn download's of a shared file or folder ON\OFF... what I mean is suppose I want to share a File\Folder with someone, I would only want them to be able to view\edit it online and not be able to download it onto their computer.. to take this idea further, it could also be helpful if you could prevent copying content from shared files... the download permission could probably be visible once a user decides to share a particular file with someone
We’ve rolled out an update which includes support for PDF files, images, audio and other file formats. This update doesn’t yet include support for video files but we’re working on it and will have more to share soon!
In my opinion there is one solution of this problem.
I put on my website iframe and I share not Power Point plik but Power Point Slide Show. (.ppsx)
So people can see it, download it but don't edit it.
They download not editable power point but only slide show.
It is ok for you?
Please enable this feature.
Has this issue been solved?? I'd love to know because it's awful!
our data is also our intellectual property too!
I can't even believe that this is not a function. 365 is really painful compared to google...
You may try this with Onedrive for Business too.
Google Drive now lets you prevent others from downloading, printing and copying shared files
This is what the Google is doing, we may have to look at this as an option if Microsoft does not create the option.
You have many industries that will not be able to use this tool as it works today. I work for an organization that deals with client sensitive information daily. We have multiple locations and would love to be able to use on-drive for easy sharing but due to the security issues, its not an option. PLEASE offer a way to eliminate the ability to download a document.
With the new one drive for business...all PDF will be downloaded to local before it can be view.
So view and edit option is redundant and it is a very big SECURITY BREACH
I share the same thought as Elwin! I would like to share important documents with some people, but I don't want they to download it, ONLY VIEW!!!
I share the same thought with Elwin, a checkbox where i can enable edit and even print but disable download. This will restrict ownership of my document.
These votes need to be combines with the online only thread:
My daughter shared her Excel Cloud file, but I cannot download it on my PC (to save a copy). What does she have to do to allow that to happen?
Right this moment I googled for this very feature! What did I find? Just the request - why not a solution?
@Microsoft: High time something in this direction is done. Prevent from downloding, even copying (with respect to pictures), just viewing should be possible being triggerd on/off according to the owners intentions..
Still there is the issue of screencapturing anything that is shown in OneDrive, as is possible elsewhere. Recently a found a site (don't ask me where), where even sreencaptures resulted onnly in a blank white picture. Hence there exists a technology to prevent even Screencapturing. I wounldn't go so far to ask for that, too. However, I wouldn't be sad about it ...
Could definitely use this
It should have been a given
How the **** do you people cross the road without getting run over
I am lost thinking why this feature has not been added in the first place.
Douglas unfortunately your emails from @microsoftemails.com are caught by the firstname.lastname@example.org filter. Thus not all emails are likely read about changes to OneDrive. I did not read the notice my space would be reduced. I would have loved to opt in to continue my 15GB of personal space. Please look into why Microsoft is quarantining their own messages please.

Thank you for having embedding. However, as an educator and website administrator I'm really really keen on not encouraging people to download the videos and images I post. Please let us know when it is available.
