Automatically shorten urls for publicly shared items from OneDrive for Business and SharePoint Online
Automatically shorten the urls for publicly shared items from SharePoint Online and OneDrive for Business, similar to what is available in OneDrive.
When the feature is complete the urls generated by Get a Link / Create Link should be shortened automatically (possibly using http://1dr.ms) and a similar feature should be introduced in Sharepoint Online document libraries.

We introduced shorter sharing links in OneDrive and SharePoint in 2018.

Starting to get requests from users to get shorten URL's for OneDrive links - Please can this be looked at

Unbelievable that this is still even a request and not complete! I tell MS every chance I get that OD4B needs to be as easy to use as Dropbox! We, along with most OD4B users, would switch to Dropbox if it were included in our O365 subscription.
Come on Microsoft, get your act together and make Od4B as easy to use as your competition!

Crazy that in this day and age, we are still stuck with stupidly long URLs for out of the box Office 365 products - relying on (quite frankly rubbish and appallingly priced) third party apps and products to do something that MS should be doing themselves. Another yes vote.

Having the entire user ID and domain in shared URLs is *the* reason I don't share from OneDrive. I guess the thought was that the sharing party knows the receiver, but that's not always the case when sharing with the public.
We really need URLs that don't reveal personal information.

Right now links to sharepoint look horrid so anything is an improvement.

@Douglas Peace: when you're looking at this, can you also consider making a file name / folder name change non-breaking?? See idea https://onedrive.uservoice.com/forums/262982-onedrive/suggestions/7863588-retitle-or-rename-file-should-not-break-url-link

Please bring back shorten links to OneDrive. Thanks in advance

Personally, I was fine having to click "shorten link" manually, I'd just like to have this option back. Having the "1drv.ms" in my links looks less fishy than "ow.ly" or "bit.ly".

Guys! It's easy to shorten the link yourself. Google has a web page that will do it for you in a sec. Don't write off one drive when it's so easy to work around this issue

We NEED this. It looks so unprofessional to have this humongous link!

I would need this tremendously! It looks ridiculous sneidng out these massive links, and running it through bit.ly sometimes is a time luxury I don't have.

This is ABSOLUTE NECESSITY -- I have been thinking of switching to one drive for business - but will not do this until this feature is available again. Customers and colleagues hate the long links showing up in correspondence of all kinds.

We need this in business/education! Who wouldn't want this capability? It's an added step having to use bit.ly or <gasp> goo.gl. Fix this please!

I hope you will reconsider this decision soon. The current sharing links are far too long. The link length makes my emails look unprofessional on top of making the email longer. Keeping emails short and clean is critical. Sharing link length is the main reason I rarely use my OD4B.
