Allow shared folders to be stored within sub folders
The new feature that allows shared folders to be synced on the desktop is awesome.
however, shared folders are added to the root of the OneDrive folder and cannot be nested into the file structure. That is an issue : the root folder will soon be full of random shared folder. Allow us to store them where they belong ! Think of project-related stuff, pictures that you want to store in your "summer 2015" folder,...
Google Drive implementation is fine : you get an overview of all shared folders on the website ("shared with me" tab) and you can nest these folders in your filestructure the way it best suits you - both on the website and locally.
We’re looking at two related pieces of this:
1) For OneDrive for Business, enable shared folders to be added to the root of the OneDrive folder at all (like in OneDrive Personal).
2) For OneDrive across business and personal, enable shared folders to be placed into subfolders.
We appreciate your patience; this is significant engineering work given the architecture of the products and our diverse customer base, spanning individuals to small businesses to multi-national enterprises to government agencies. We aim to address this while maintaining our industry-leading security, privacy, and compliance commitments.
Thank you for the continued feedback.
The idea of have 3 or more virtual links in the explorer sidebar is frankly ridiculous.

This works easily in Dropbox, a 3rd party application. Why can this not work in one that is made by Microsoft FOR Microsoft?

Come on! It's been 5 YEARS!
UP UP UP .... Any admin van give us feedback on this??
ough 2015-2020 .. nothing changed ::(
Did you recognize how important it is?
Why i cant Vote ? This is defintly a problem for me and an effective workspace.

This hasn't been implemented and you have been working on it since 2018?!? Come-on microsoft, it cant be that difficult! having a root folder cluttered with shared folders and files is a bloody mess, all I want to do is create a shared folder members of my family can use to put in pictures etc, but I want to make it a subfolder of my dedicated 'file transfer' folder. Please get this fixed ASAP!!!
Please do 1) For OneDrive for Business, enable shared folders to be added to the root of the OneDrive folder at all (like in OneDrive Personal).

Its so stupidly flawed design by the engineer. Google Drive is a lot better than OneDrive for many causes, especially this issue. I've had no issue using Google Drive and exceed all expectation in cloud storage, while OneDrive is missing a lot of much needed features.
After using the web interface to "Add to my OneDrive" a folder that was shared with me, I would like to move it to a non-root location within my OneDrive. The root directory becomes very cluttered otherwise. This should work in a similar way to the existing functionality in Dropbox.

This is really a basic feature, and this is indeed taking to long.
I'm considering to swith to Google Drive because of this since they do offer this option for years now

@Eugene Any update on this?
I find it incredible that this is taking so long. It has a massive number of votes and, unlike the Python for Excel thread, this is an actual serious flaw in OneDrive. It should have been fixed years ago

Good Day! It has been almost a year since the last Admin response, and it doesn’t seem that it is yet possible to move shared folders within other folders on OneDrive. Could you please provide us with an update? Is this a feature that will be implemented at all? And if so, what is the timeline we are looking at?
Thank You :-)

Hi, in my company i migrate to O365 cause it greate and i propose it, but lack of this think is really confusing for clients, they are want to have same think as had in GDrive and other Cloud Disk. I mean when you have Sharepoint/Onedrive place for Teams/Sharepoint Group with their file space calls (Documents in Sharepoint or File tab in Teams or Synced in FileExplorer). And you have Owner/Manager of group and he wants inside group that only specify persons in group (not whole members) have an easy access to specify subfolders:
They can't see it in Sync group in File Explorer
They can't see it in Teams>Channel>Files
They can't see it in Sharepoint Site>Documents
The people have only one way to get to this folders by Onedrive>Shared with me.
So the best functionality of o365 (integration) do not works proper here.
I have to stick to dropbox for this reason
Our organisation (a secondary school) choose to make a switch from Google Drive to OneDrive.
Now I am have trouble to organise the folders the students have shared with me.
Reading into this serious flaw, it is clear it was a mistake to ditch Google.
Why is Microsoft unable to make this work when others have already?
Any idea when this (rather serious) failing will be fixed?
This can't be serious - looks horrible having these folders on the left side in the Explorer Window.
I understand this is a "significant engineering effort", but I was always thinking that at Microsoft work a significant number of programmers.
Hoping you will find a way to make this possible soon - especially considering this worked already in the past - we were able to reproduce it with old OneDrifve versions. But staying with these versions brings a bunch of other problems...
By the way:
to the 5 years anniversary of this request!!!
