Option to password-protect folders in OneDrive for added security
Last week we announced a new feature called Personal Vault that will be available soon for OneDrive consumer accounts. See this blog post for more details.
We have no plans to bring Personal Vault to our Commercial customers at this time, but continue to make investments in advanced security features that are unique to the Commercial service.
Hello, is anybody there? User here looking for something that resembles a response of update.
Hello, hello, is there an echo in here?
Any updates on this - will need to be able to do this for the new GDPR - need to ensure all files with data are password protected - but need to have one drive open for all basic stuff all the time.
got to have it - this is basic 101 file sharing capabilities.

People at my organization would also like this feature added - Option to password-protect folders in Onedrive for added security.
Doug (Team Microsoft) - Any update on this? You've been looking at it for more than a year now. Its a safe argument that the customer requirement hasn't changed.
How hard is this to add? Dropbox has had this for ages. This is a deal killer for being able to switch to Office 365/OneDrive. The new external sharing features with so-called "Identity Verification" (https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/OneDrive-Blog/Introducing-a-new-secure-external-sharing-experience/ba-p/112624) is NOT helpful. The objective is to have a way to safely share files with people whose e-mail accounts might be compromised by giving them a password (by phone or text message or pre-arrangement) that they must use to access the files. If someone's email account is compromised, the Identity Verification feature is totally useless.

Any update on this?
I had asked about password protection via O365 support & was advised that shares are protected by the need for users to login with their MS account (incorrect) or to password-protect ZIP within the share (cumbersome).
The reprehensible part came in the last email I received from support where they stated "One thing we do take extremely serious is your feedback and suggestions", yet here we are - years after the feature was requested and still nothing more than "We're looking at it". Disgraceful display of arrogance.

What do you mean when you say that you are looking at it ?
Is there also a chance to think about it or at least having a more precise feedback ?

with the European Data Protection legislation coming into effect on May 23rd this is going to be really important for a lot of us SME businesses.
OR even - something with multilevel protection.
In particular we would want to use this for protecting employee data from other employees.
any news ?

MS won't do anything unless they make a buck. Samsung has a secure folder option why cant onedrive
It seems silly to not offer folder password protection. If you are a personal user and have a family, there is clearly a need to have some files protected. I don’t want my kids opening up documents I have created for tax or retirement purposes.
I received an email for One Drive office 365 premium that says the feature "password protected links coming to office 365 personal with one drive". It is the deal breaker for my business. It looks as though this has been going on for a long time. Do you have an implementation date? Otherwise I will have to go to another cloud service.
If you look at MS adds for one drive Premium plans, it is announced as "comming soon" (at least in German)
If I interpret this correctly, Microsoft has been "looking at" this suggestion since at least April 25, 2015. The first response I can see is from Mar 8, 2017. I do not see any indication that this has been address beyond the "looking at it" phase. Thus, I am in the process of moving my organization's cloud storage to another vendor. This is disappointing because OneDrive does have features that I value. Security of our information is critical to our work. Ciao!
Is there this option yet or not?
Password protect for a folder would allow creation of a secure backup folder that cannot be encrypted by ransomware that follows on open OneDrive connection from a hacked PC.
