At Ignite, we announced a new setting that will allow admins to exclude new files based on file name pattern or file extension. These files will have a new “excluded” icon. Announcement here: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/microsoft-onedrive-blog/celebrating-the-top-onedrive-moments-from-microsoft-ignite-2020/ba-p/1679821. This feature will be rolling out later this year and we are thinking of expanding it to folders after that.

You should be able to exclude individual folders or files from the Backup process as some apps keep live app data in Documents for example that will never sync right and will cause constant complaints from OneDrive.

This is greatly needed. When I am purchasing storage, I should not be constrained to only the select locations you offer.
