In our organization we use OneDrive for Business and sharing of folders a lot. We totally agree with this idea that it should be, at least possible to set up alerts on such folders, to get notified when the content of a folder shared folders has been changed
We recently added the ability to transfer ownership to another user when deleting a user’s account from AAD from the M365 admin portal. If no entry is provided, the default will transfer to the manager. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/onedrive/retention-and-deletion
The manager or newly assigned owner will have the ability to sync that content or download and then move to a shared library or their own OneDrive.

We don’t have a timeline yet but it’s still on our radar.
Wanted to provide an update here: this is something we’re planning on doing, but don’t have a timeframe to share yet
We agree 100% with the suggestion and are exploring ways to enable this. This represents a significant amount of engineering work hence we don’t have a schedule to share yet.
